Illinois moves to make recording police a crime with 4 year jail sentence
Quote:Apparently the state of Illinois didn't get the memo that recording the police is all the rage these days. That's because awaiting outgoing Gov. Pat Quinn's signature is legislation that would ban the practice in many circumstances.

Just last week, the state's House (by a 106 to 7 vote) and Senate (46 to 4) passed the measure. It seeks to get around an Illinois Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that struck down a previous law making it a crime to record police.

Illinois comrade! Welcome to liberal bastion of civil liberty and tolerance!

Wow. Just wow.

Bankrupt and corrupt, now they want to lock up a kid's mom for recording a cop harassing her daughter. Welcome to your leftist Utopia, progs.

Thought this kind of thing only happened when the Jack booted Reich wingers were in charge? 03-lmfao

The all-powerful government gets more powerful.

We're not citizens anymore. We're subjects.

Public employee unions…because someone has to protect our public servants from any kind of accountability.

Liberals always preach freedom this and freedom that until it's something they deem as important - then, they'll take away every freedom there is from whomever they want. Ends justify the means.

"Trust but verify".

Nothing wrong with that. Are you in favor of throwing Granny in the clink for 4 years for filming her husband getting beaten? Apparently the legislature and Gov of Illinoise is.

If he was getting beaten, he must have been resisting arrest remember? Lol

And what better way to keep them good than to demand transparency and accountability?

RE: Illinois moves to make recording police a crime with 4 year jail sentence
Before y'all go on the rampage blasting this as a "liberal" thing just remember that the assembly which voted on this 106-7 has a 71/47 D/R split. The senate which voted on this 46-4 has a 39-20 D/R split.

I am sickened by the thought of a bill that makes it illegal to record police, but a simple google search on this shows that the intent of the bill was regarding private conversations and covered all people not just police officers. <== not that I'm trying to whitewash it or even defend it, but context/intent here is key. And that bit of information is a key aspect one should know before making an opinion on it.

The states need to dismiss useless lawsuits

These cameras don't run the entire 8-12 hour shift. This mean the LEO has to turn them on.

How likely is a LEO going to remember to turn the camera on on every altercation with public?

It's like the dsh board camera. They only begin video taping once the overheads are turned on.

This is what liberalism looks like. To those saying that there were republicans that voted for it, you're correct. But those guys are just a much interested in the oppression of the state, thus making them liberal as well.
