1. Won the MAC Least. Could be the weakest division in FBS college football.

2. Lost all 3 games to MAC West opponents. 2 at home....

3. Did not defeat a team with a winning record. (only bowl eligible team was 6-6 Ohio U.)

4. Have lost the last 5 times to ARCH RIVAL TOLEDO!!!!!!!

5. Would have probably finished 4th or 5th if were in MAC West Division. (and probably not bowl eligible.......)

Yet, the ESPN announcers and the MAC will try to paint them a potential world killers this Friday night.

Tough job but then I'm not convinced NIU is all that. Doing it with defense lately. Still, should be a three score win...

I know niu beat us but there is no doubt in my mind that we are better than both of those teams that face off in Detroit this week end.

I would rather see NIU re-play Toledo for the MAC championship.

Toledo is a great FB team.

All true, but I'll be pulling for the team down south.

NIU beat a decent Big 14 team, we lost to a Big 8 bottom feeder... That loss and the loss to NIU still stick in my craw..

Not at all. The Rockets had their chance and couldn't get it done...again.

So, it's down to the Ohio team down south vs the Illinois team up north. I'll pull for almost local guys in the MACC. Hey, they sent us water.

Like I said about VCU in a hoops post: they have developed a way to determine which of two teams is better. NIU>Toledo> Bowling Green. That whole score thing is so hard to get around.

You may be right but unfortunately in the future if anyone looks at the MAC records they will find NIU and BG played for the MACC 2014 Championship just like 2013 and nary a word about UT----that is just the way it works and everybody knows it---only the winners get recognition---there are no asterisks acknowledging the "close but no cigar" crowd in the record books.

They kick our butt if their QB doesn't overthrow 6 wide open deep passes that each would have gone for TD's.
I think the outdoor elements played a role in that.

Except that Woodside may have done much better as well. I think we win anyway. Knapke did nothing against BSU either-Woodside came up huge, albeit against FCS level cometition.

Still can't make that leap of "no doubt in my mind we are better" etc. etc.

I think if there were teams that deserved shots vs. NIU again, they'd be Toledo and WMU. Not BGSUX... Their record is product of an awful division and I hope they get showed up in Detroit because they don't deserve sniff of the MAC Championship trophy this season.
NIU went 4-0 with @BSU, Toledo, @OU, and @WMU on their schedule in November. If they blow another chance in Detroit I will not be a happy camper.

I don't buy that at all. It's like saying Hunt would have rushed for 6 touchdowns if the lineman had got to the defensive guy that made the tackle a half second sooner. Overthrowing a guy with the wind at your back happens all the time. He was just as likely to underthrow it by taking too much off it to account for the wind. If it were just as easy as counting a touchdown every time someone got a half step on the defense and was subsequently overthrown - then the scores would be in triple digits.

Yeah, we turned the ball over 3 times to BG's 0 and still won. If we play indoors BG may have a better day, but they still have to find an answer for Hunt...add in our passing game with less turnovers? Heck we could blow em out. I'd bet we be 7-10 point favorites again if we played em. Would not be chalking up a W for BG going into Detroit, that's for damn sure.

Deserving has nothing to do with it. NIU and BG EARNED the right to play in the MACC while UT and WMU did not. Not that I haven't mentioned it a bizillion times before but in 2000 the Rockets beat Marshall 42-0 but lost one game all year to WMU and at 10-1 watched from home while a 6-5 Marshall (with their usual home field advantage every year handed to them on a platter by the MAC Office) defeated a now demoralized WMU team and was the ONLY MAC team to get to a bowl (although UT was still ranked at the time) where they defeated Cincinnati.

That was a travesty----this year, not so much.

We did deserve it actually. We tied the MAC West. We lost on a tie breaker or technicality. Im not saying NIU doesnt deserve it, but what did BG earn exactly? The right to be thankful they play in a weak division... Sure they earned that. But getting torn into by WMU, and BSU doesnt give BG any thing good. The chance to play in the MACC may seem good for a week but once they lose they will be viewed as the 4th or 5th best team in the MAC. Toledo earned rights to MAC West champs, and guaranteed bragging rights over all but one team in the MAC (NIU).
