An NCSU fan basically walked through a friend of mine as we were in line for something to drink at halftime.

All because we were wearing blue. Meanwhile, we were actually having a decent chat with some others in line.

Other than Jonesboro the SBC has some great places to travel to but don't limit yourself just to the host city. In most cases you can see and do everything the day/night of the game. And there's a lot of interesting places to visit before getting there or a little ways past the host city.

Traveling is what I miss most about the SBC and the great fishing, and at least 2 trips to the Gulf (USA & Troy) which we always spent the week leading up or after the games (football/basketball)

If you have the time and can afford it try to work out back to back road games and spend about 7 days on the road going to one and leaving there and work your way to the other...get to see the country and 2 football games. My personal choice if still in the SBC would be TXST and GSouthern for that trip if the schedule worked out that way. But that would be a 10 day trip.

Expedia is a great tool to use to save money if you don't mind last day planning... book with in 24rs of your stay and get a lot of 50% off really good rooms. We did that for our trip to Stony Brook NY last week and then Time Square for Thanksgiving and got 4 star hotels for 60% and 70% off. Truthfully I'm not really into the star system (recruiting or hotels) I just go for the best deals at clean hotels with good ratings and sometimes that's the 4 hotels

No SBC trips this year, only Tulsa

Had a great time.. our marching band came and it made Tulsa look small time since ours is 3-4x larger (makes sense if you look at enrollment)

Tulsa itself was sort of a dead town that weekend.. not a lot going on. Met plenty of locals who gave us crap for being Texans, not so much Bobcats (makes sense again)

In the future, I'd love to make it to Georgia Southern, App, and UL (unless it's a Tuesday game which is entirely probable)

I'm not fully retired I just work when I want to and mostly in the off seasons. Had to miss the one trip I had looked forward to since the FUs left the SBC...

my wife had to have a major bypass surgery so we looked at Western's schedule and planned it after our trip to Navy with the hope that my son and I could still make the FAU game... didn't work out so we added the NY trip and doing FAU/FIU in Jan.

So other than the NY trip last week and the Washington Dc/ Navy trip nothing great. The DC trip I ended up with almost $500 worth of speeding/parking tickets that wasn't planned.

The speeding I did but the parking tickets wasn't my fault...got towed too at 5pm on the Friday before the Navy game. We paid the meter when into the museum came out and the car was gone. Someone had taped a private event at 6pm sign over the no parking from 4-6 sign. Ended up costing $100 for the ticket, $100 for the tow , $40 for the cab ride and $60 to get it out of the lot.

I hate northern trips and to be honest being country folks we feel like foreigners up north :) Plus we didn't have a TX trip in football and none in basketball this year.

Since it looks like our bowl game will be out of the country and no passport...It sucks. But it also means there will not be a basketball road trip we will miss...

but Charlotte, Ruston, Birmingham, Huntington do nothing for me. S.Miss and Old Dominion are close enough to the gulf and Atlantic to get some deep sea fishing in

Only been on two road trips thus far- GSU (twice) & Louisiana...

@ GSU - Very friendly fans and the few they have attending are DIE-HARD fans, too. If you can't have fun in Atlanta you aren't looking for it. I actually like the GA Dome too... love those nice little folding trays on the backs of the seats in front of you vs putting your drinks and food under your seat.

@ Louisiana - Small town, BIG-TIME gameday atmosphere! Was extremely and pleasantly surprised. Fans seemed fairly nice but not overly-friendly or anything like that. Enjoyed partying after the game despite the unfortunate USA loss and it was then when I met plenty of friendly fans vs at the stadium.

As a fan of the worst football team in the conference, Sun Belt is a great conference to travel and although I haven't been to many places, they all look pretty amazing. Personally, I would not be taking a trip to Statesboro. The fans are just rough and even though I would like to keep watching the rivarly, I would just be scared honestly. They were so rude at the Dome this year.

Sane thing happened to me in, oh crap never mind. It will just start another ten pages of back and forth between southern fans and a sun belt fan base.

Made all the trips this year but one (to Paulson for the Eagles matchup with Savannah State). Got the frequent flier miles to prove it, lol.

First trip ever to NC State, USA, NMSU and Navy ... return trips to Ga Tech (though never as an opposing fan) and to Texas State.

I'll stick w/ just the Sun Belt trips:

USA - Hadn't been to the Mobile area since I was in the Air Force in the late 80's and on TDY at Keesler, thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the stay downtown. Best part about this trip was it was our first Sun Belt game, and while the crowd was light it was quite refreshing to see their fans out tailgating and having a great time much like we do in Statesboro. Outside of Appalachian State, the entire SoCon is a collection of drab tailgating scenes. Above average pressbox, but nicer than I was expecting given the age of the facility, though at first I forgot that the Senior and GoDaddy Bowls took place there.

NMSU - Again, small crowd but loved the entire area. I had been through most of central, north and east Texas through the years, but never the El Paso area and enjoyed the ride up to Las Cruces, as that was the only part of NM I hadn't been to either. Hoping they get in soon as full members and if so I'll work that into a nice long weekend baseball trip. Aggie Memorial Stadium was pretty nice, though the pressbox needs some major work. I'd have to say in all my travels the last 28 years on the road covering games it is one of the worst, only Delaware and William&Mary were worse. Stadium reminded me of ODU's Ballard Stadium a little bit, which is weird since they were constructed nearly 40 years apart. Met a former player and his family in the lot and ate some great food. Love that aspect of road travels.

Georgia State - My first trip to the dome was in 1992 when Steve Young and the 49ers massacred the Falcons on MNF 41-3. What a somber evening I spent in the nosebleeds section as a poor kid right out of college. I hadn't been back until we played Georgia State. Different vantage point from the field & pressbox, different results, different experience. Tailgating was great, lots of Southern fans in the Yellow Lot and it had the same feeling of overtaking the north lot in Chattanooga's Finley Stadium. Did see the Georgia State fans assembled in one lot close in (can't remember which color lot), but had three high school kids with me so we didn't venture beyond heading to their seats. I'd like to see Georgia State turn their situation around but the dome is really not the ideal place for that to happen. One major disadvantage is even the close seats are a ways back from the action. I don't normally like end zone seats, but I think those might be the closest ones in the place to the field the way it is configured. Next time my son will be a sophomore @ Southern and he'll be on his own, I hope to do a little more exploring on the tailgating scene.

Texas State - Saved the best experience for last. Flew into San Antonio early Friday, visited a friend, drove up to Austin mostly on backroads (the interstate was jacked up around Kyle with a 18 wheeler leaking fuel apparently), ... drove into San Marcos to do a dry run to the stadium. Apparently everyone was getting off the interstate there as well, or I hit a bad time for traffic, lol. Found the stadium, headed north eventually on Stagecoach Rd or something like that, just headed north and remember getting back on the interstate around Buda (?). Got into Austin about an hour before the team, hit the bars and had fun downtown. Hadn't been to Austin at night except many moons ago when I was 18. Did pregame radio so my tailgating experience was non-existent this go-round. Enjoyed it immensely in 2005. Nice pressbox, very cordial staff, very impressed with the changes to the stadium since 2005, disappointed in the crowd turnout for what was a beautiful evening, was expecting more students with such a large student body. Food highlight of the trip was a Saturday 10am visit to Black's BBQ for an early pre-game lunch. Ride back to San Antonio was uneventful, wished I had booked a later flight back but otherwise a fun trip and already looking forward to a return visit.

Had a great time spending some of my tailgating time with PT guys in the Blue Lot.

If you're basing your reaction on how we acted in the stands when your team was on the field, what did you expect? This is the first bad experience I can recall hearing about.

Reading yall's talk about travel makes me wanna rethink my career choice or invent a time machine to fast forward about 40 years into the future to where I'd have the time and hopefully money to travel around. I saw something on Travel Channel or Food Network about Crawfish Town USA in Lafayette and have been wanting to travel there ever since. Is that place any good?

I only made it to two Sun Belt home games and the UAPB game and I was very impressed by the amount of people both Idaho and Ga Southern brought. I also introduced my high school friends to TXST football this season now that we're all out of school and they fell in love with everything, especially the girls, and now they wish they went to school at TXST and I wish I could go back lol.

I don't know your experience, but the majority of our fans are very welcoming. Yes we are loud during the game, but it was a good time tailgating. I had a lot of good interactions with State fans. You would be welcomed to most people's tailgate in Statesboro. I would encourage you to make the trip at least once to judge for yourself. I'll even have a beer ready for you in the main lot.

I would go to more games, but I like weekends at home watching football with multiple TV's set up as well. I did manage to go to 8 games this year altogether though. Even managed to catch the UTSA/WKU game (my girlfriend graduated from UTSA....btw, Bowling Green is in the middle of nowhere, I don't know where they get off saying Statesboro is podunk).

For some of us, this is our hobby. I don't own a boat or any of that stuff (although I used to). This is my "thing" and everyone knows don't plan any major events for a Saturday in the fall, because I'm occupied. I know that will probably change when I have kids, but for now, I'm going to go and do as much as possible. You probably have other hobbies you devote time and money to. It's just about what brings you a lot of fun and enjoyment.

It changes a bit when you have kids but it can still be done. Just makes things little bit more difficult. Especially if your kid is active (like mine) and just likes to run around and get into things.

I will say that all of the Georgia Southern fans I met that came to Mobile were very pleaseant. Very loud, but that is just passion for the game, which I admire. I plan on making the trip to Statesboro next year to see this game day atmosphere they brag about. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
