Miami started the game 23-0. USA has climbed back into it somewhat, 57-44, with 11:45 left. USA called with a technical. 59-44 now.

Miami is ranked #17, so I hope we can continue to climb back into it and make a game of it.

Jags fought back, but it's hard to win a game against the #17 team in the country that started out 23-0. We outscored them 75-64 down the stretch but couldn't overcome the huge deficit. Good to see us not give up and give a good effort after such a disastrous start. Final score was 87-75. Here's to growing our young team!

Final didn't look too bad, 87-75. That being said, I think we might need to start looking around for a new coach. I'm afraid Graves ain't gonna turn the corner. We're better than last year, but I see a OOC record of 1-7 versus Division 1 teams. Plus 2 wins versus non-Div 1 teams.

This team is real athletic and we have the ability to improve as the season goes on. Keep in mind that we only have 10 scholarship players (4 freshmen, 3 sophomores, 3 juniors, and 1 senior). We are a young team, most likely the youngest in the Sun Belt. Coach Graves is only in his second year, and he has to build his team. He just signed two 3-star players in the early signing period, one being a 7 foot post. I think the future is bright. I see glimpses of what we are going to be, and it looks like fun.

Did Arrow really leave the cupboard that bare?

I think it was more bad character and no team chemistry than no talent. Too many ball hogs shooting up bricks. I expect some improvement this year, but Graves needs time to build his team.

Yes. Arrow's last team had 5 seniors, 5 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 2 freshmen. Of course the 10 seniors and juniors are gone. Of the underclassmen, Mychal Ammons left to play in the European league and Viktor Juricek transferred. Barrington Stevens is the only player that remains from Arrow's tenure.

The sbc not looking too good so far. uta certainly looks questionable and we are at #7 ut-austin tuesday. I thought we might have something going this year when we went to Bradley and beat them but it turns out that they are no good this year. we cant shoot the ball and dont have much size so it doesnt look good for us.

Relax, it's early. If I recall correctly, y'all got off to a slow start, and ended up being fine ...... OR am I confusing BB with Baseballs? At any rate, too early to know exactly what you've got yet. 04-cheers

Little Rock has a game with UCA (Central Arkansas). Thirty minutes down I-40. First time we have played since they have been D1. We are signed up for another four years of home/home games each season, so it could develop into a nice rivalry if we have a few close games along the way.

It is up to the 11 of us who are here to improve our basketball. For starters we need to stop with the numerous non D1 games (and yes I know Ga. Southern is one of the worst in the conference at doing this). We have to start getting some non-conference wins. I don't know what a realistic goal is but I would say if there are 33 conferences the Belt needs to strive to at least get our RPI under #20 as a start.

Well, they also are one of only a couple schools in the league that put a major emphasis on their basketball program. That was never going to fit in here with most of our schools primarily football focused.

Our baseball is top notch though.

In the 80's and early 90's Georgia Southern had a great basketball program with multiple 20+ win seasons. I am hoping for a return to that soon...

Here's what we can do

1) A minimum RPI requirement for OOC. if that means a bunch of road games, fine. Its not like you're getting big crowds to see Spring Hill College or Carroll College. I'd like a ban on non-D1's.

2) Minimum basketball budgets

3) Adding NMSU as an all sport member

4) Setting up an A-10 style revenue sharing scenario where teams that earn money get to keep more of it.

This falls in line with a post I made in April, 2013. I agree that we need to go ahead and add NMSU to replace WKU and have 12 BB members.

1. Enforce the Scheduling Requirement:
We have a scheduling requirement in place that states each school must schedule opponents whose RPI averages 150 or better and limits non-DIV I games. But it disappeared. Why not bring the scheduling requirement back? I know it's hard to schedule for basketball, but we have to at least try.

2. Monetary Incentive:
A. If a school gets the auto-bid and loses the first game, nothing changes. The money from the one NCAA unit is split up evenly among all members.

B. Any school making it to the NCAA Tournament via the auto-bid and winning a game earns the Sun Belt another unit. Therefore that team should get an extra share of any subsequent units that they earned when that money is split up; the other teams staying home should only get 1 share. To reward a team with an extra share we would just divide the unit one more time to give that team extra money. For example, if a team makes it to the Sweet 16, thereby gaining 2 additional units for the Sun Belt, they should be rewarded the following way (if we had 12 members): [(1/12) unit 1 + (2/13) unit 2 + (2/13) unit 3].

C. Any school earning an at-large bid, thereby gaining the league another unit, gets an extra share. For example, if a team makes it to the NCAA tournament but loses in the first round, because this is still an extra unit for the league they would get 2/13 of that unit. Since a different team received the auto-bid this team would actually make 2/13 of their unit share and 1/12 of the auto-bid share. I believe this money is dispersed for 6 years.

The numbers could be worked out differently above, but the point is that an annual cellar dwelling team shouldn't be rewarded the same as a team winning games in the NCAA Tournament. This incentive could help light a fire under some AD's butts to put some decent roundball on the court.

Coaches complained about the 150RPI requirement and it was dumped. The primary problem was attempting to schedule only games like that created situations where teams were no longer able to schedule the number of home games they need to in a year, and it would ruin some long term OOC rivalries (I.E. ASU vs Lamar)

What needs to happen is that we ban Non D1 home games entirely, and limit teams to only two money games per year. That forces teams to find D1 home and home series. Those were all requirements at one point that were never enforced.
