Heard today that Camilla Bowl encouraged Ga. Southern to seek waiver
Heard today from a pretty highly placed Ga. Southern booster that the Camilla Bowl would invite Ga. Southern this year if we were eligible. Supposely they encouraged Ga. Southern to seek a waiver.

That being said I don't think there is any chance it is granted and frankly I would not want to cause another Belt eligible member (probably Texas St.) to not go bowling while we took their spot.

Well...uh...of course they would invite you if you were eligible...you are conference champs.

What is the "rule" about the conference champ? I know it guarantees that team a bowl but what bowl?

Sun Belt uses same principle the WAC used.

Win the league and you are guaranteed a bowl you just aren't guaranteed which one.

I know the Belt has 4 bowl tie-ins next year. I would like to see 1 more, preferably in the western side of the conference. We have the 2 in Alabama and 1 in Florida for next year and one would think the eastern teams (Troy, USA, App. and GS) would get long looks by those 3 if those teams are eligible. I am not slamming Ga. State but until they get some wins I think any thoughts of them going bowling are pretty far-fetched right now.

The western side of the conference only has the NO Bowl and it would seem going forward Louisiana, Ark. St. and Texas St. are going to be bowl possibilities on that side of the conference.

I would like to see a 5th tie in with some bowl in Texas-Louisiana-Arkansas.

We are definitely going to need more bowl tie-ins or bowl selection season could get nasty in years to come.

Bowl selection will never be fair its about making money. So the Idaho, NMSU, TxSt and App St will never get a fair shake in the deal unless they win the conference championship. For us it's a good thing and a bad thing as long as the NOB chooses first. I kind of wish we had a tie breaker and if we have four bowls than the top four get to go in no particular order of selection.

Just as an FYI, I believe 4 is the max we are allowed by the NCAA at the moment. We've got to average 5 teams for a certain number of years in order to be allowed a 5th tie in.

Back up Tie ins are fair game though.

Why wouldn't App and Texas St get a fair shake? Are you only basing this on proximity to the bowl locations?

No way would Arkansas State and TxSt send 40,000+ fans to the NOB.

Just like about everything else in college football the bowl system is designed more on preserving status quo and generating revenue than it is about sports.

The bowl contracts insulate the powers that be from having to answer for not having an equitable post-season.

We think we have it bad? Let Idaho get to 7 wins and see what bowl their "student-athletes" earn. None. But it is all about being fair and equitable to the student athletes right?

If I weren't a fan of Arkansas State University specifically I don't know that I could tolerate continuing to be a college football fan generally.

Another bowl would be nice but so would secondary tie ins. SBC has none which is a shame. Those key to getting additional bowls when others can't fill theres.

Yeah Idaho is screwed. Heck I bet if they had 8 wins, weren't conference champs, and the SBC has 5-6 bowl eligable teams, they still wouldn't get picked. They'd take a regional 6-6 team instead.

Or wait until we have a slot in the Bahamas Bowl and see how many people travel to that. That game will be interesting to watch this year.

2017 is our first year in the Bahamas, we'll have 5 bowls that year.

Same Story in 2019 when we have the Bahamas again and trade New Orleans for Miami.
