I think making no sense is part of the plan.
i personally don't think they have any plans at all to dump football. i think they just want to kill recruiting and run off coach clark. when thats done and they don't have to worry about UAB football improving for another decade, they can just point to paranoia and say that they never threatened the program, and its not their fault

To be fair, UAB admin and the BOT (including Gov Bentley) have all fed into this confusion by releasing contradictory and perplexing statements.

Call other trustees too! Some may be willing to step up for us. We know St. John and Bryant won't.

This isn't a newly commissioned study. It's been going on for awhile. Im just surprised at how much it had to do with athletics. My gut tells me that Garrick McGee bolted when he got wind of it. Timeline fits.

Didn't McGee get a bigger salary to be an assistant at Louisville? If so, that'd go against your theory. However, you are right that the timeline fits.

I do not know, but I'm pretty sure of the timeline, and McGee's departure fits too perfectly. In addition, I believe that when the final decision comes out, I think you will find that the decision was made around a year ago. The whole "expedite the results" thing is just smoke and mirrors. They've known how this was gonna go down for a long time.

Has anybody pointed out to St. John that resources are funneled away from UAB to build fraternity and sorority houses at Alabama? Of course there are other probably better examples of UAB assets being used to improve the Tuscaloosa campus.

I could totally see this happening. They announce that football is dead, and then say "just kidding guys" after the public firestorm. When things resume, the program is in its 2006 state.

Also--we need the Football Foundation Board members to call as well, if possible.

That scenario also allows them to blame the fans for killing the momentum football was gaining. "If you guys hadn't created such a panic over this little study and claimed we were trying to kill the program, you wouldn't have lost your coach and recruits"

To paraphrase he said that the university is in the middle of a study and football draws a lot of money away from other programs. I stated that I'm sure that there are a lot of programs that draw money from other programs. I also stated that that football allows those kids to go to school and other programs that are tied into football, like the marching band and cheerleading, would be lost or reduced if football is discontinued. He stated that he understands but they have to do what is best for the university.
My last parting shot was that I understand that the university if trying to optimize it's resources and I have been contacted about donating, but as an alum I would hate to see football go away. So, for the record, you heard a BOT member state that the football program is being considered for elimination? To put it another way, he did not deny that the football program is being considered for elimination? Correct?

Correct. When I if the program was in danger, he replied that right now they are in the middle of a report, but some programs may have to he cut to save money AND the football program cost a lot of money.
I'm not a chicken little or do I post rumors from Ted in math class or someone's dad who heard this. I've talked to Rogers, I've called St John. Hell I've called England. So I only post what I personally have done or heard. Take it as you please.

Journalists need to jump on this. One trustee says it is out of his hands according to an email from thebernreuter and now St. John contradicts this.

He didn't say who has made, or was making these tough decisions. Can't really get any meat from that statement. (Though that doesn't seem to stop most folks around here. )

You know for all the posters saying people are over reacting,I hope you're right. Because if we aren't wrong, just remember how you laughed with your heads in the sand and stuck up your arses.

Its one thing to try and keep people calm and level headed. It's another thing to irritate an already delicate situation.
