Yea it was kinda over the top, but Tom Arnold's comedic portrayal of a secret agent was pretty good. Especially the part where they take hostage Jamie Lee Curtis and Bill Paxton. It was a good thought out plot, I mean you take away all the action hero stuff they try to pull and let it be what it was, that would be how I imagine a secret agent gets outed.

Bad Grandpa-- Watched this for the first time last night. I laughed at most of it, especially the end when they enter a beauty pageant.

True Lies would be in my Top 10 of Favorite movies easily.

It would be nice if SOMEONE would nut up and due a 1080p BR release in anamorphic widescreen for True Lies. The shotty dvd doesn't due the movie justice.

2001 A Space Odyssey / BR
--Great print for a older movie. Cool scifi tale but the thing that irks me about the movie is the super slow beginning...then the allusion of a conspiracy...then the "current" time with HAL issues...then the weird ending.

2010 The Year We Make Contact / dvd
--Dvd print is garbage... lots of video noise and while the box says its a anamorphic widescreen transfer it is NOT. That 2.35:1 stretch ate up a lot of screen real estate. I think that as a movie, this one is better than 2001 overall. I did kind of think the cold war angle of the astronauts heading out to the Discovery felt a little forced but when viewed in context maybe not.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For / BR
--While I personally thought it was good in its own right, it lacked the "it" factor that the original had. The casting was find and kind if interesting to see who filled whose roles from the first movie. I liked some of the back stories told. Eva Green....damn girl, its like that!

I saw the Lego Movie, HBOHD on DVR. The ending was what I was expecting. The movie had a fun plot, and a number of clever scenes, but man was it manic. Quite enjoyable but we actually liked being able to pause at times.

RE: The movie thread
I watched quite a few movies this weekend.

X-Men: Days of Future Past- DVD- Not a bad movie. You can watch the 3 original, Origins: Wolverine, and First Class and be good. Luckily The Wolverine doesn't play into this story line. Cool concept and the way it was brought together was awesome.

The Foot Fist Way- DVD- This is an old Danny McBride movie. It was recommended to me by a buddy. If you liked "Eastbound and Down" that was on HBO.. Imagine this being Kenny Powers teaching taekwondo.

Eight Men Out- DVR- Never saw this before.. For it to be a movie from the 80s, I thought it was well written and never lost interest in it. Good movie about the 1919 World Series.

World War Z- DVR- I watched 20 minutes and deleted it. I just couldn't get into it.

Batman- DVD- Michael Keaton, not Christian Bale. I remember always thinking this was the best super hero movie ever besides the original Superman.. After watching it for the first time in many years, I now know it was because I was young and it was a good movie for the 90s, ha. If you were to watch it today after being exposed to Iron Man, Thor, etc., it's not that good, but for then it was.

Batman Returns- DVD- To me this is the last serious Batman movie before they switched up Batman to Val Kilmer and Clooney, and before Bale took up the mantel of the Dark Knight. Watching both the original and this one, to me this one was better written, by today's standard.

Batman Forever- DVD- This is where it got comic booky, campy, goofy, etc. It was like they didn't take themselves serious. It looked too fake and too Tim Burton-ish.

I still have Batman and Robin left to watch and then I'm going to watch Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

One weekend I'm doing the Bourne marathon..

Thoughts on your Batman thoughts

My first exposure to "live" batman was the 60s tv show and I liked it a lot for what it was.

Batman and Batman Returns took a more serious mood on the material for sure. I liked both and thought both were done well. I thought the ability of Batman Returns to have two villain origin stories yet stay a good movie was a marvel of modern cinema. While tough to beat Nicholson's Joker Pheifer's Catwoman was equally iconic. Batman Forever took Batman to a more comic book feel like the 60s tv show with all the neon and what not. I like what they did and I could deal with it visually but it operated just under my threshold for such. Batman and Robin took everything I felt borderline with in Batman Forever and upped it to gaudy proportions. I still can't fathom how this as big a all-star cast as they had they managed to make such a **** movie. Seriously. I watched B&R once in the theaters and swore off watching it ever again. I broke my policy when I got the DVD Double Disc boxset they did for the "original 4" and watched it again--I was like, yup, opinion confirmed: movie is garbage.

Now, onto Nolan's Batman Trilogy. Batman Begins took the right move in going darker, more realistic, more serious character origin story with a new villain to the silver screen. The Dark Knight was a EPIC follow up and with Ledger's Joker really leading the way on why the movie was so great. The Dark Knight Rises was hit and miss for me. Cinematography-wise it was great. Catwoman was great. The Bane do over was pretty damn cool. But, IMO, it seemed overly long to get to what it needed to get to.

Therefore, IMO, the only crap movie was B&R. The Dark Knight Rises and Batman forever are tied for the slot above that. The 4 renaming movies are hard for me to rank as each has its pluses and minuses that almost equal out to being the same level of a good movie.

I'm picking up what you put down.

I feel the same way about the "Man of Steel".. I loved the re-boot except for the end fight scenes. Superman will always be a favorite, it's the first movie I can recall watching as a kid.. That and Popeye with Robin Williams.

Superman I and II were so good that to have the series get punked by the very weak III and IV is very perplexing.

Superman Returns was ok, but it lacked the action that a Superman movie needs.

Man of Steel had a lot of good building blocks to craft a great movie but I think it kind of went opposite to Superman Returns in that they jacked up the action scenes so much that felt like watching a live action Dragonball Z movie.

The Expendables III/br
--OK, I love the series. I love the action stars and how they are used. The one thing that kind of irks me about #3 is Barney's circular reasoning for going with a young gun team instead of his tried and true boys to take out his nemesis in Mel Gibson's character.

Alien / BR
--From the Alien BR Quadrilogy set. Damn, for a movie from 1978 this is a stellar print/restoration. Alien and Aliens(Aliens more so) are two of my top Sci Fi movies ever. To me it is sad that Alien 3 was so horrible even though it did have some potential. Alien Resurrection was better than 3 but its cloning of Aliens and Ripley concept was kind of a little too out there IMO. If anyone is shopping, this set gets you I-IV with Standard and Director Cuts of all 4 movies for around $20.

The Transporter 1-3 dvd/br/dvd
--I loved the first one. Thought the 2nd had a little to far fetched of stunt work with the car even though I did like the main villains. The 3rd I thought had the best villain and some Statham's best work as far as the series goes. The only thing that bugged me about #3 was how they tried to make that Russian girl hotter than she was. My main reasons for going back through the series was 1) I had ordered 1 and 2 on $4 bargain BR via BBY and 2) refreshing my feelings on the series seeing as he will also be in the F&F7.

A Better Tomorrow/dvd
--A fave of mine from old school Hong Kong Cinema/John Woo movies. Decided to watch again based on the new Wu Tang Clan cd title. I loved Chow Yun-Fat in this movie. It just exudes that late 80s/early 90s Asian cool. I really got attached to the story though of a crime guy having to play one role for his job and another role for his nephew--then you have the whole getting out of the life and wanting forgiveness angle. IMO, a very touching story on that level.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes/br
--A great entry into these new movies on the subject matter. The dynamic of Koba and Caesar is what really sells the movie to me more so than the apes vs. humans angle.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay 1 / theater
--A solid entry and you just keep seeing how evil Snow is. I've enjoyed this series so far.

Legend of Korra S3: Change / BR
--A pretty good series of episodes IMO. The new "super villains" were done quite well with their new powers so to speak. I did have some issues with how this guy could master air bending at the level he could and be magically entranced by a elder Air Nomad that he could do all this in the name of taking down the avatar.

Miscellaneous Magnum PI and Knight Rider episodes on NetFlix.

caught birdman at the local film house the other day. michael keaton as birdman, perfect! gotta wonder if michael keaton wasn't able to add to the script. anyway, it's a story of an aging blockbuster actor trying to shed his popcorn role and become legitimate in the eyes of the film industry while trying not to go batshit crazy. introspection abounds. solid. edward norton killed it as usual

nebraska. i wanted to like this. i have no reason to be disappointed as i knew how the story would unfold. i just wanted it to be something it wasn't. it was just a tired story. old man thinks he won a million dollars in a sweepstakes and is determined to get to lincoln from billings even though he can't drive. his son takes despite his best interest. visits long lost friends and family and they all believe he's got a million dollars and out come the leeches

I liked JCVD a lot. He was very good in that role. But the movie as a whole was pretty extremely bad. The inside jokes were forced. The dialogue overly cliché. The fights were poorly choreographed. The shooting scenes went beyond camp, to where it was just stupid. Effectively hiding behind shelves on a storage rack? Machine guns can't hit anyone on a zip-line?

The biggest benefit is that I have no interest in seeing Expendables 3.

From Russia With Love / dvd
--With all this SPECTRE talk I wanted to watch a movie with them in it. I liked it well enough but it always felt slow to me as opposed to other Bonds. I did like the whole SPECTRE island training ground thing.

Thunderball / dvd
--One of my favorite James Bond movies. One of my beef's with the movie though was that Domino and the female assassin looked so similar. I thought the boat splitting up at the end was great!

Ghost in the Shell / dvd
--One of my favorite anime's of all time.

Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society / dvd
--I liked how they incorporated all the new Section 9 team members into the fold from the SAC series. The depth of the plot was very intriguing. The Major's ability to run/hack other cyborgs and put them out in the public versus herself was a interesting twist to her abilities.

Hardwired - Cuba Gooding Jr. and Val Kilmer. - Crackle

I've watched this a couple of times... and I have no idea why. Horrible execution on what could have been a good "cyberpunk" type movie. Except that it was like NOBODY in this movie except maybe Michael Ironside even looked like they wanted to do this. This was a "paycheck" movie.

You'd think it would be so campy you couldn't help but enjoy it. The only redeeming feature?

Val Kilmer's ridiculous hair piece...

Very good. Almost on par with Frozen. Of course, both movies are radically different in content and fare. The relationship between Baymax and Hiro has parallels to Anna and Elsa. The comedy is off the charts and the characters are engaging. The action has the right blend of wonder and importance.

I would definitely recommend it. Be sure to stay for the hilarious post credits scene.

I haven't posted in awhile. I do have updates:

A Most Wanted Man- DVD- Not a bad movie, however, it's not one I'd tell everyone to watch. Good story line and excellent way for PSH to end his career on.

Wish I Was Here- DVD- Funny movie about a family that is struggling cause mom works and dad wants to be an actor. Grandpa pays for private school until he's diagnosed with cancer. It felt like an Indy, but in the end it had several good laughs and the story was good. The acting was pretty good as well.

Batman Begins- DVD- Continuing my Batman marathon. I like the re-boot. Watch the 1989 Batman and this one, and it feels like this one goes further in depth in the Batman legend.

I bought several Blu Rays on Black Friday that I've seen but are on deck, along with two Netflix movies. Here's what's on deck for the next few weeks:

Guardians of the Galaxy- Netflix DVD
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)- Netflix DVD
Dark Knight- BR
Dark Knight Rises- BR
Man of Steel- BR
Grudge Match- BR
We're the Millers- BR
Grown Ups 1&2- BR
Hunger Games 1&2- BR
The Departed- DVD
LOTRs- BR (This is all 3 LOTR movies)

I've seen all these movies, I'm going back to re-watch.

Agree on Batman Begins vs Batman.

TMNT (2014) / BR
--To redo this kind of movie in today's market with today's special effects I have to say that its a pretty good redux of the Turtles story. I actually like some of the origin story elements over the standard fare. I think they pulled off the turtles personalities in a good way. I never got the hateorade this film got.

Exodus Gods and Kings / theater
--Not bad but I wouldn't own it later on. I like some of the relationship stuff they brought up between Ramses and Moses. The ratting out of Moses was kind of jacked up...that punk. The end with the splitting of the sea was kind of cool.
