Bowl line up for AAC and MWC
AAC: (5) Birmingham, St. Pete, Miami Beach, Military, Armed Forces, Bahamas
-Currently 4 bowl eligible teams, plus Houston and Temple still mathematical possibilities *AAC has back up agreement with Independence Bowl

MWC: (5) Las Vegas, Poinsettia, New Mexico, Hawaii, Potato
-Currently 6 bowl eligible teams, plus Fresno and Wyoming are still mathematical possibilities. *MWC has backup agreement with Cactus Bowl

The MWC also has the New Orleans Bowl according to both their website and the site for the bowl. So they have 6 slots for 6 teams.

MWTEX just explained that If the cactus goes unfilled the MWC gets it. The cactus gets 3rd pick of MWC teams after Las Vegas and poinsettia.

Actually, Poinsettia is part of the bowl with no pecking order.
It goes: Access, LV, Cactus (if available).
or if no Access bowl, Las Vegas, Cactus....

MW has the NO bowl this year instead of the Armed Forces.

RE: Cactus Bowl and AAC
The Cactus Bowl info from MWCTex makes me wonder----what is the nature of our backup with the Indy Bowl? It seems that we would be FAR more likely to end up with an opportunity there than in Memphis. I wonder if we can move a team to the Indy without fulfilling all our other options (similar to the Liberty agreement). I also wonder what is the nature of the CUSA backup there---and how do they affect one another.

Might not find out this year since the SEC is sitting at 12 bowl eligible teams now. Pretty sure they will fill this spot now.

Does anyone know what the payouts for the Cactus and Liberty are now? I know the Cactus was 3 million or so last year and the Liberty was a little over 1 million. I know the Libery bumped their payout and the cactus dropped. My question is if the payout is the same if the Liberty actually had interest in Memphis why would the Big 12 even care if the dollars were the same? This assumes Memphis wins out and the Big 12 won't fill at least one of them.

Cactus is probably half the payout it was when BWW was sponsor. I know the liberty would be great for the AAC if there's a way to get it, and several Memphis fans on here have mentioned Memphis saying its a possibility. If not liberty, independence would be nice if it's an option. It would be great for Houston or Memphis due to driving distance. Cactus is probably not a possibility, I'm not even sure how the rumor got started on here, but anyway would any of you guys want to go all the way to Arizona for the cactus bowl?? Long trip for a lower half PAC finisher isn't it?

Birmingham is SEC #8 or #9 vs AAC champ correct? Although I absolutely love the match-up for you guys, I'm thinking a better SEC team could be available with them having 12 teams bowl eligible. Ole Miss?--They've been slipping fast. I know it sounds crazy but I can see them losing 2 more and falling to this bowl. If Tennessee wins 1 more then they'd be a great match-up for you as well.... Now if it's ECU in the Birmingham, I WANT FLORIDA!!!!

I wouldn't want to face Arkansas. Look at their schedule and results. They've played everybody tough. The last 3 weeks against MSU, LSU & Ole Miss they've given up just 17 points with 2 shutouts.

If we can get an SEC team, I'd gladly take Birmingham. Easy drive from Memphis and surrounding area for our fans. The only 2 bowls I'd take over it are the Liberty (Not Likely) or the access (also not likely).

I was looking at the standings and realize that the SEC can possibly get 13 teams bowl eligible!! 13 out of 14? Has a conference ever done that?

USF out of bowl picture. Temple is only remaining team that can get eligible.

SEC will fill Birmingham bowl...even if they get 2 in playoffs. Potential opponents include Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Could we see a Memphis/Tennessee bowl? Memphis fans, would you rather go here or to say Miami to play BYU

As a fan I'd prefer the SEC in Birmingham. I don't care about Miami at all.

The team might enjoy Miami more.

Memphis fans are all over the board. We are not good at this bowl stuff lately. We went to 5 in 6 years, ending in 2008, but we forgot how to act, lol.

Some want B'Ham. Some don't. Some want an SEC opponent. Some don't. Who knows? I'm confused, too.
