How can a player who may become the all-time D1 leader in receptions not be a finalist for the Belitnikoff award?

Take a look at his conference/team and you will find your answer.

Being from ECU has not stopped us from having All-Americans and other award finalists.

I think Lockett is the only one on the list of finalists that I would say is less deserving of being on that list for his performance THIS SEASON than Hardy. Remember, just because he's going for a CAREER record doesn't mean he should get recognized for that over what he's doing THIS SEASON.

It's criminal.

They are probably dismissing him as a system guy.

Justin Hardy's numbers, 80 rec, 1,002 yards, 7 TD's (doesn't include his rushing TD, or pass TD's) and that is in 9 games, 9 of the 10 on the list have played 10 games.

The award started in 1994 and non power team players won three of the first five. They haven't won one since.

It's an insult, but Hardy will have a long and successful career in the NFL.

Coach Ruff had a nice rant about today, He coached a 2 time winner, so I and others think he knows what he is talking about. Rant starts around the 8:00 minute mark.

The games argument is dumb. Your QB has attempted 420 passes...the fact that all but one of those finalists plays in offenses that don't pass the ball at even 80% of that rate makes it why they're in there and not Hardy. Hell, after the game he had against us, I think every Bearcat fan would argue for his inclusion, but I don't think it's a massive snub. It doesn't truly matter though, because it is Amari Cooper's award to lose this year thanks to massive voter bias towards the SEC.

Cooper will win it not because of bias but because he is the best receiver.

I doubt there are any stats on this, but I would bet Hardy is in the lowest five of percentage of balls dropped. For balls he had a legitimate chance on, because he gets to some balls that most don't.

I don't doubt that one bit, I'm just telling you the voters know that he's getting similar stats in an offense that throws anywhere from 60-170 more passes than the other candidates' depending on whom. The only offense that throws at ECU's rate and has a candidate in the running is Colorado's. I agree with you all that he's a worthy candidate, but I can't be up in arms about it.

To think Hardy was a walk on is astounding. He should be hands down the winner of the Bullsworth trophy.

Kevin Smith and Matt Forte both ran for 2000 yards in 2007 and neither were Doak Walker finalists. The fact that someone other than Smith won the award that year is completely laughable, but when you think that he wasn't even a finalist...

Point is, most people don't take this level of football seriously. We all already know this, but every time one of our teams' players don't get the recognition they deserve it pisses us off all over again.

Basically, once the BCS became official, and the media (espin) let the viewers know that the players who played for the schools in the bcs were legit, and the players on the teams who didn't play in the bcs were not legit.
