Even if NMSU were a good candidate, they aren't, how does adding NMSU make geographic sense for anyone other than UTEP? And if UTEP were to ever leave, we'd be stuck with the Aggies out on an island.
It makes geographic sense for everyone travelling to UTEP for all the Olympic sports because you get two games for one trip.
So it really benefits the rest of the conference more than UTEP.
Moot point though, because even though some conferences foster regional competitors ( think Carolina basketball ), too much bad blood with UTEP.

I was going to state the same thing.
As for bad blood with UTEP....not sure if that is still going since you play them in all sports every year. So the OOC game becomes a conference game freeing up another OOC game for both.

Ruston is a beautiful little city. Hell they have a Whataburger which is huge attraction. Great place to go to school. 20k at home games and 40 - 50k in Shreveport we do pretty well with our limited resources. I agree we aren't going anywhere and don't really want to go to the AAC.

I understand the logic of travel partners, but USA would add a travel partner for USM(UTEP to NMSU=50 miles, USA to USM=95 miles) while also being a good bit closer to two thirds of the west division and dramatically closer to the east division.
I will say this, I was vehemently against adding NMSU when we were in the Sun Belt since they would have nearly doubled the east to west footprint of the conference. I do not think NMSU would be a terrible addition, so long as we know UTEP is sticking around. I don't want to see UTEP leave, but one positive if they did leave would be about 550 miles lopped off the western end of the conference. UTEP is worth the travel, NMSU would be worth it from a travel partner perspective, but I don'tthink NMSU brings enough to the table to justify the 600 mile gap between San Antonio and Las Cruces, in the invent that UTEP leaving.
I just think that at minimum USA and ULL are better options.

The insinuation that LaTech was admitted into C-USA because of its market potential is laughable though I've seen Tech fans going through the contortions of trying to explain how. I suspect the invite came because there was a hole to fill and you guys had practically worn out the knee pads by that point.
As Swampbear pointed out, the Cajun athletic department on up to the top had its collective head up its ass for a few decades. That's finally been rectified..........better late than never.

It's just a waste of tone speculating who CUSA would take. The took a dumpster fire program FIU and a school that had no football team. They could take Idaho for all we know. Anyone who think stAte wouldn't move if invited is kidding themselves. We definitely don't lust over CUSA, but even if the programs are no better and there is negligible gain by moving, we still have to. We don't want to get left behind and because of previous members reputations, they are just slightly higher on the imaginary pecking order. Really the biggest advantage is a better organized conference office that isn't run by a guy that should be selling used cars.

You say it was knee pads. Most intelligent people know it was because of what Swampbear said, an administration with a vision and a goal. You say that has now been rectified at UL-L. Perhaps it has. I guess we'll see if it was rectified in time when another round of realignment happens.

We made it in before MT did.
1) We hadn't been efforting for two decades.
2) Your invite preceded ours by about six months and with only a decade head start on FBS play!
3) (perhaps most importantly) I'm not claiming MT would be the fifth choice for the AAC.
