EMU Hoops Promotions and Events
Folks talk about connecting with students, boosters, etc.

Today EMU sent out photos of the "Party in the Paint" which I think was held two weeks ago.

Of course, there was the event in the Rec last week well attended by students, our posters, etc.

Last night there was an invite to a meet and greet with the basketball coaches.

And a week Friday there will be a lot of local students attending the EMU basketball games.

Afterwards, I believe we'll see EMU athletes attend select basketball games. 04-bow

Best I can tell, EMU athletics is doing a good job.

Interesting how basketball has attempted to be more involved and transparent since Creighton's arrival. These type of events didn't exist a year ago.

Should we paint the hoops floor grey?

Is it because of Creighton, or because we had 370 people at a postseason game? I'd bet it's more of the latter. Lyke wasn't just gonna sit on her hands after that happened. Hopefully these events help.

Had a great time, one of the marketing people came up to me and asked can we get more people? I said as always win home games but also do something at the rec/I'm when they have outside events going on most dont this but when Jones pool hold highschool swim meets there can be as many as 3000 people in the building around 750,000 people use the rec every year. The rec/im brings in between 3-7 million annually into the local community with this events. It is very underutilizied as a marteking tool for emu Athletics's.

Or staff changes within the athletic department?

This is a tough one for me to understand fully because I'm not close enough to it. I can (and probably will) check with someone who is very close to EMU.

Heather brought in some of her own people who share her vision and energy.

Is it the new ass't AD for Development? Dir. of Athletic Marketing? the new deputy AD? or the AD, herself? or all of the above?

Goals for fund raising are up, ticket prices are up, etc.

The bar has been raised for what they expect of EMU athletics.

I think the changes pre-date Creighton.

They were probably 'in the works' for a lot of months but rolled out with the beginning of the 2014/15 school/academic/fiscal year.

I think Creighton showed us a coach that has overall CEO responsibilities for managing the program including marketing. I'm not sure about his coaching yet but I can tell you I'm impressed with his promotion of the program including the Factory ie trying to establish a "brand". I've not seen Murphy do this but this season there is now all of sudden increased "access" to Murphy and the coaching staff, more community outreach etc. Remember I said someone connected to the program stated the opinion that Murphy had the aura of being stand offish and marching to the beat of his own drummer. I think perhaps someone had a discussion with him and hence the changes you're seeing this season. Check his twitter activity.

These changes are part of the DONOR program. I have the donor materials and can check them.

The athletic giving folks have designed more perks, etc. (and higher giving levels).

I received an invite to last night's 'meet and greet' but (obviously) couldn't attend.

The 'Party in the Paint' (two weeks ago) was a joint event for both men's and women's basketball programs.

It wasn't simply a men's basketball program specifically.

I believe there was an even bigger (?) event at the President's house a while back (don't remember if it was football. I think. I'll double check).

I wish that instead of using the phrase "the Factory" they would have used "the FactorE".

RE: EMU Hoops Promotions and Events
I'm testing my memory (hope it is correct) but I think a group of significant boosters, etc. etc. were given a tour of The FactorE back in August. Might have had dinner at the President's house and 'carted' to Rynearson, etc. etc.

IF I'm remembering correctly the football staff and players were there, etc.

(I'll double check with someone who was there).

I think EMU is trying to move heaven and earth to reward boosters, add more donors, etc.

(side note: I would love to see athletic giving for this fiscal year and say the previous four. I really hope it is up significantly. They have worked hard.)

There's a new assistant AD who's in charge of donor relations/gifts. He came here from WVU, where he worked in a similar position. Appears to be a great hire, and hopefully he's getting some results as well.

I've met Dan several times. A great hire.

RE: EMU Hoops Promotions and Events
I like the way they are 'adding value' for donor's contributions.

The events, etc. they are doing for donors are very nice.

They are also doing very nice things for season ticket holders. (If I lived in MI I'd buy a season ticket to get a chance to win some of the nice gifts).

BTW, if anyone with EMU athletics is reading this thread, take a look at my avatar. It is a sweatshirt given to member of the 'Fast break Club' during the Ben Braun era.

One year was a sweater with an insignia (think it was a ball going through a hoop and an Eagle). Maybe that will be my next hoops avatar.
