Panama, serious question. Why did Miles use his timeouts to get the ball back before the half but simply run between the tackles when they did get it back? Has he been asked that question by the media? What's your take on that? I thought he did us a favor.

RE: A head start on the GS/GA ST. game
This game reminded me a lot of the total workover Georgia Southern put on Northern Arizona in the 1999 playoffs. Similar score (72-29 I think it was in the Eagles favor that year). NAU had a big time BYU transfer running back by the name of Ronney Jenkins, and they had a high powered passing offense and a pitiful defense. We could have hung 100 on NAU that game, and yesterday had a similar feeling.
I think Fritz did all he could to keep the gas off the pedal offensively. He unceremoniously punted on a 4th and 1 when the Panthers had zero chance of stopping it, and actually gave Georgia State a break which they immediately sat on. With 3 minutes left in the half, we had plenty of time to drive down and score again.
More telling though, was that we were in basic sets offensively for much of the game, really did nothing fancy. Savannah State and Georgia State have equally poor defenses. Difference with Georgia State is that they have a pulse on offense and were able to keep the ball away from us long enough to break triple digits.
Defensively, we have a ways to go in the secondary but that isn't surprising in the least when you have a former LB playing CB in one case, and are looking at seniors who were recruited to basically be SoCon run-stoppers. Fritz knew this was an area of weakness this first recruiting cycle and that will have to be an area to shore up again this signing day.
My stat for the game ? 69 points on 69 plays. You don't see that very often.

RE: A head start on the GS/GA ST. game
Like I wrote on another thread... In 2012, which was the last year GS was eligible for the FCS playoffs, GS played 9 FCS teams that year that were better than GA state was yesterday... Wofford, App, Samford, Furman, Chattanooga, Central Ark, Old Dominion, North Dakota State, and Citadel.
The only thing GA state has proven to me in five years is that they can run their mouths, nothing else, and even after the beatdown yesterday that hasn't slowed down a bit.

Dude, we haven't even talked to or about you in 3 years. Please act like you have been there before. Apparently the outcome yesterday which we knew 2weeks ago was a life altering event for some.

I just think G-State went to FBS to early. I can see why the admin at FGSU jumped at the offer. They were blinded by delusions of grandeur. RGSU has been criticized for staying in FCS to long & maybe rightfully, but 30 years of winning, recruiting and a tradition of winning set us up nicely for the move. I think if G-State had put in 10 years in FCS the transition would been smother for the team. Some G-State fans say that FCS just wouldn't bring in the fan support needed but it takes time to build a fan base & if State had made it to the playoffs in its last three years in FCS I think it would have helped the team and fan base. Still State is here and now in the SB & FBS. Its offense is putting up enough points to win but their "D" is losing the games for them. Fix that & maybe some FBS wins are on the horizon.

Coulda woulda shoulda but we didn't. An offer was presented and we too it. Realistically we took a chance that could pay off in the future no shame in that. We take our lumps and keep moving.

Your argument is a little weird in the first place. It's almost like you're placing a smooth transition to FBS at the forefront of a team's goals, and that's really not the case. A lot of teams just want to play at the highest level. It's hard to blame us, eh? It's awesome that Southern was able to build the traditions they did in FCS, but that's not for everyone. It would have been laughable to tell UTSA, "You need to spend a decade or more in FCS, make the playoffs some to build traditions and a fanbase, and then step up to where we all know you want to be anyway."
I'll put it this way...there's very little reason to think that in five years, our team will be in a worse situation because we already went FBS rather than working on FCS success in that time and THEN trying to make the transition. And I'm enjoying being FBS now. What would waiting have done for us?

To your point, GSU, UTSA, Charlotte and ODU all have losing records. What GS is doing is phenomenal but not the norm. And it doesn't mean they don't get clobbered in year 2 or 3. Long way to go and many recruiting cycles left to get to 85.

Was your first team defense still in when our scrubs drove the field and scored a TD?
Dennis Pritchard scored our last TD and hasn't touched the field since we played SSU.
I don't think we have as much of a depth issue as this conference thinks. Sure, we need to get our numbers up, but our quality of depth isn't as far off as people think.

I told one of your alums the same thing about 4 years ago.
Will you be in the Boro next year, you think?
I just hope you guys don't end up an annual cellar dwellar with no traditions and an apathetic fan base because of the poor showing.

RE: A head start on the GS/GA ST. game
GOOD STORY:
So on our way back from the game we'd stopped in Macon for dinner, about an hour later down i-16 on the way back to the boro my roommate and I hit a deer in his Corolla. Needless to say hitting a deer at 70+ mph in a 4 door sedan isn't good for the sedan. Car is likely totalled and had to be towed.
Well to get to the point there was a guy who pulled over to make sure we were ok and it turned out to be a foreign exchange student from GaSt who had rented a car and was going to visit Savannah for the first time. He waited a good 30/45 min with us till everything was settled and gave us a ride to Statesboro on his way down to Savannah.
What an interesting day to say the least.
P.S. - We are both ok. I may have fractured a finger when it slammed against the dash, but it's healing up ok.
