Somebody is dropping the wrench on that veteran staff. You don't expect this stuff out of "The Factory."

The program has hit a brick wall

With these guys down I see a decline in production at the factory

Things are looking grey at Rynearson

They're going to have to hammer away at this problem

EMU may have to "forge" some new methods of getting through to these kids..

Apparently (according to MLIVE) the guy they beat up was the cousin of one of the guys who shot and killed Demarius Reed. So as upsetting as the lack of justice in that case was there is a problem when your team exhibits gang behavior like that. EMU should consider dropping football. It is a constant embarrassment to that University.

Note that in the gallery an EMU player is wearing a Michigan sweatshirt. He is also wearing it in court.

That isn't an EMU player, that is the victim. If you are going to try to slam EMU, at least get your facts straight

Thanks Mike Gundy but EMU does a good job slamming themselves. Its not a PR conspiracy, your football program is embarrassing at every level. Your field is grey, you never win, theres a criminal culture amongst the team, your attendance is embarrassing, financing the program comes at the expense of disinterested students and you've got enough problems at EMU to worry about without the albatross that is this football program.

Dear Liam9903,
Pretty good at calling the kettle black. Winning football? Perhaps you have forgotten the last two seasons of wonderful Bronco football, and starting this season with a loss.
Criminal culture? Some wonderful examples of Western football being charged with stealing, and one of them on probation.
Financing? Don't kid yourself. The majority of yours comes from the same place as ours.
Attendance? If, you have another disastrous season like last year, you will be lucky to have anyone show up to attend any game.

RE: EMU Players Charged with Assault
Ken, I lived in Ypsilanti for 5 years and have a Master's from EMU. I don't hate EMU. But that football program is not a point of pride for the University and it doesn't draw the community support that WMU does. The two are barely comparable in most every respect. Our season last year was a disaster but for us that stands out as unique.

The athletic budget at EMU has more mouths to feed, and football is not a moneymaker. The type of athletes you get are kids with few other options and the attrition rate is high under every coach. You've got players getting killed off campus, and revenge beatings but you always have minor incidents (thank god they tore down the ypsi/arbor bowl). EMU football straddles the line between pitiful and embarrassing. Gameday at Rynearson is a joke and your own students aside from a few either don't care or find it funny. Besides liking EMU and liking football there are few compelling reasons to continue playing.

RE: EMU Players Charged with Assault
Dear Liam9903,
My how one can take things and throw them out of proportion to what has happened. One player was killed, and you make it seem like it's an annual occurrence. Our attrition rate is no worse than any other school in the Mid-American Conference, including Western.
Western may have won more football games overall then Eastern, but when it comes to championships, you have only one more than Eastern and that was a co-championship. Bowl games? You have yet to win one. We have only been to one, but we won it. This is with your school being in the Mid-American Conference twenty-five years longer. So, when it really counts, Western is actually worse then Eastern.

RE: EMU Players Charged with Assault
Ken, you can spend a day on CFBwarehouse.com and come up with arbitrary statistics and say that someone is as bad as you (If you don't include overall or head to head record). But your attrition rate as a University is terrible. Your 4 yr and 6yr graduation rates are terrible, there is a terrible perception of campus safety at EMU and as the "front porch" of the University the football program exasperates both of these problems far more than uniting the University. EMU needs nothing but good press right now and having its football team gang beat a guy who's related to the guys who murdered your player at an off campus party is not exactly equivalent to shoplifting. For the sake of the University the football program needs to stop being embarrassing, pull its weight or just go away.

You can't get 10,000 people to pay to attend a game. You can't get people on two sides of the Stadium without inviting high school bands or playing a more well liked local institution. You haven't sniffed a winning season in 20 years (unless you count 6-6 with playing two FCS teams). You can't keep your grads, students and professors from going to Ann Arbor on the weekends for games and entertainment. It might just be time to rethink how much money and energy you want to keep shoveling down this rathole.

Dear Nacho,
First of all, I am old as dirt, so my responses to people on any blog follow what I was taught. I know it really doesn't fit with today's generation, or being computer literate, but you will just have to bear with me. Sorry it does not fit your way of responding. I hope this explanation helps.

Dear Liam9903,
First of all you are the one throwing statistics around, especially if they fit your argument, but it is not okay for anyone else to use statistics for their arguments. Calling the kettle black again.
You need to realize that the world does not revolve around Western Michigan football.

You get points for being consistent...I'll give you that.
