That video prompted my comment. Just need a local member to duplicate the effort during scrimmages - for the whole session - and we'll have so much fun with dissection!

Obviously bailiff and co aren't interested in appeasing us for fear of leaking info. But I'm just sayin - ya know?

Extra special privileged and 5 points identified true blue owl supporters only?

Not sure for UH, but SMU has Rvals, Scout, DMN beat writer, and Ponyfans.com.

RE: Fall Camp
Times like these I really miss MK. Back before Coach Bailiff limited media access for a stretch (twitter in particular), MK was at almost every practice and scrimmage, tweeting up a storm on what he was seeing. Practically a play-by-play of practices and scrimmages. It was a beautiful thing. Now we have a Rivals guy who is too busy to check in more than once a week, a Chron guy who doesn't check in more than once a week (at least during this time of the year), and the journalistic coverage from inside Rice has returned to its pre-MK levels. Do people even remember how great MK's coverage was, particularly when he was working the beat for Chron? Lots of it is still in the archives.

Ricefootball.net is probably the best coverage we get, but that is mostly in-season coverage and not boots-on-the-ground pre-season coverage. I really appreciate the comments from folks here who have attended scrimmages and practices, because that is exactly the kind of coverage that has been lacking. Of course, it just confuses me when one guy is saying Driphus looks great and another says he is shakier than a twig in the wind!

Per JD,

Joseph Duarte ‏@Chronicle_Owls
Robby Wells will take over the job at tight end in Connor Cella's absence.

Joseph Duarte ‏@Chronicle_Owls
Rice leading WR Jordan Taylor has been held out of camp the past week with sore foot. Bailiff said it's precautionary and no concern

That stinks for Connor, but at least we have quite a bit of talent in the depth chart at that position.

"CH" = ??

(I'm not a Chron subscriber, so I can't read the evidence myself. If it's a typo for "UH", I'll delete this post after it's corrected.)

Also, I guess it's an indication of his non-stature that "Chron guy" doesn't even rate the use of his name.

Yes. I remember excellent coverage before him, too, from Farmer and McTaggart. But there was a personal but not contrived side to MK's writing that made it special.

After the Chron laid him off, I was surprised it took them so long to merge the beat with UH's. And no surprise, really, that when that happened, UH has gotten preference. The Chron repeatedly made it clear that blog comment count was an important (to them) metric, but Rice fans, contrary to our quickness in flooding online polls, didn't take much interest in blog-commenting. There might have been more Parliament posts complaining about their level of coverage than comments on their Owls blog.

I've noticed this as well. I know to expect very few Rice comments on stories, Youtube videos, etc., but I'm still stunned to see how often the number is 0.

For example, after ~120 views of the Rice football Youtube video -- which everyone agreed was very well done -- there were ZERO comments and ZERO likes. (There was 1 of each after I got through with it, of course :-).

There are so few of us that we should be making MORE noise, not LESS, folks.

And we need to comment more at Rivals, even if it is just a "Thanks" for a long overdue report, or we will lose that too. Looks to me that 90% of the posts, few as they are, are done by about 5-6 people.

Love reading Duarte's tweets today (multiple of them) about the concession menu at the new CH stadium. That is clearly the Fall Camp priority for coverage around H-Town.

Of course the "H-Town Burger" ingredients take precedent over coverage of DJ, ND next week, etc. Even the "Southern Dawg' is getting more attention.

At least DB cannot complain about the media being too in his business. He wanted privacy...he is getting it.

As bad as the media is, the school coverage is not much better. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and consume pretty much everything Chuck P puts out, but compared to what other athletic departments offer, it's paltry at best.

He seems to be a one man band. Pretty odd that a seasoned SID pretty much has to self produce all of that sort of content.
