I'm thinking all but maybe 4 or 5 of those losses were by a TD or less.
For the most part, we've always played the Mississippi's and South Carolina close. Florida is the only one that's killed us everytime, but it's been so long since we've played.

USF established in 1956
Amazing how fast it has moved to become a top 50 Research university and we are 1-5 vs SEC
Beating Auburn
Losing to Florida,Arkansas,Alabama and South Carolina and Kentucky. All on the road
Wish more would play us.
Barely. USF started with it's first classes in 1960, after being "founded" a couple of years before that. They started up a football team in 1997 but didn't play division 1 until 2001--as an independent. They played 2003 and 04 in CUSA and the Big East from 05 on. USF played it's first bowl game in 2006 beating my good ol ECU Pirates in the Papa Johns Bowl. Then not too long after that our former coach the stupid Skippy Holtz left us for them and failed miserably. Yes, I'm bitter.

I never mentioned anything about finishing a season in the polls, only that they were ranked in the top 25 within the last decade.
The point was that an ECU fan questioned if Memphis football has accomplished anything within 50 years, and I pointed out that they were actually good enough to appear in the polls in the last 10.

Lost to South Carolina 33-14 in '96
Lost to Auburn 41-14 in '97
Lost to UF 58-27 in '99
Lost to UF 42-0 in '06
Those are the only games that we were really handled in. There were other games like the South Carolina game in '05 where we didn't really threaten that much, but didn't get manhandled, either.

Exactly at what point to wins no longer count? There were no leather helmets during the period that I selected. As for being subtle, I see no need for that owing to the many aspersions which are routinely cast toward my school's football program.
None of us have had a coach tell the media to close down the football program....
Cue Tommy West:
Much like Gray Avenger here, Tommy West reference's Memphis's wins over the SEC. "Can beat Payton Manning in Tennesse and we can beat Eli in his senior year and Ole Miss again the next year down there..."
----
I will say that Justin Fuente has turned the tide with this program. I believe Memphis will be Bowl Eligible this year.
WTF does a fired ass country coach's exit speech have to do with anything?
He is the last coach to beat the SEC for you... He dedicates a whole minute to it during his exit speech... might be overshadowed by the fact that he called for the football program to be closed down... but he's still beating his chest over beating the SEC... kind of like this thread.

I don't know but I remember watching in person DeAngelo Williams run all over Dowdy-Ficklen stadium once.
congratulations you beat a JT team by 3
Your current win streak is 7, series record is 15-6. So there, we have won 6 times, not just against JT teams. And hold the largest margin of victory in 1992, 42-7.

So under GOL, only the 42-0 loss to UF in 2006. Considering they beat Ohio State 41-14 in the BCS championship game that year, that's not a bad history against the SEC.

I remember one night when UCF had Ole Miss beat until your QB fumbled as he crossed the goal line. Every school has things to be proud of and skeletons that they would prefer to leave hidden in the closet. The board was a little slow and I just wanted to get some conversation going.

You've beaten us in Steve Logan's 3 worse seasons which were some pretty bad teams.

You've beaten us in Steve Logan's 3 worse seasons which were some pretty bad teams. JT's two seasons and Skippys first. Not once when we were .500. And you're really killing us with a 35 point margin of victory, a whole point above 34.

And your seven in row are against some of the worst Tiger FB teams I have ever witnessed - the end of the West era and the entire Porter era. Arguments can go on and on.

That was Daunte Culpepper and he actually tripped on the center's foot on a QB draw on a 2pt conversion in overtime that would have won the game. The play was there, too. Came up a half yard or yard short.
That's just one of a long list of woulda/coulda/shoulda heartbreakers over the years. I just can't bring myself to list 'em all.
