If he's thinking about FIU's dance team...well that's not a big deal. Lots of grown men would do that.

RE: College Football landscape: good for G5 bad for FCS
I think people are getting a tad confused on "the gap".

Scholarship limits will keep some degree of balance.

But we are rapidly moving toward a situation where FCS is going to have a much harder time attracting quality coaches and retaining them. It is now possible to earn more as a coordinator in the Sun Belt than being a head coach at many FCS schools and we already know there are a number of P5 assistants making more than Sun Belt head coaches.

The guy who happily took an assistant gig in FCS can make more money being a "quality control" guy in P5.

Used to be if you wanted to go I-A from I-AA you had to figure out how to pay for about 13,000 new seats to get to the 30,000 level and pay for (then) 25 more football scholarships a similar number of women's scholies and hire one more men's asst and probably another women's sport. You had to widen your recruiting a little.

Now its 23 scholies and maybe you don't want (or need) 30,000 seats but you have to really bump your salaries, you need to invest in better overall facilities, you need premium seats (and demand for them), you really have to bump your recruiting and you will eventually need to fund stipends and other goodies and truth is finding a league to join isn't going to be easy. You could sue (and have a fair shot at winning) to overturn the conference invite rule but that still won't get you a conference member sized cut of CFP money and no shot at all of a spot in the Access Bowl.

The cost of moving FBS is going to rise.

I don't think FCS is dead but would I be surprised if 5 - 10 years down the road they pare some more scholies? Not at all. They might even cut another coaching position.

As I've said before I don't see Montana making the move. They already draw an impressive percentage of the state population, moving up won't push them much higher.

That's what numbers are going to start looking like. 1.7 plus to get an AAC or MWC school, 1.3 plus to get a good SBC, MAC, CUSA school, 1 million to get lower tier G5 schools.

The schools that will really win at the G5 level will be the ones who can legitimately help a P5's SOS. Those will be the ones that will get gigantic guarantees and the chance for Home and Home deals.

That is probably true but even Wake Forest will receive ten million a year above what G5 get . They will not need to play G5 road games. P5 to g5 gap is ten million g5 to FCS gap is 1.5 million. That is without the conference network money just new play off money.

Most P5's will in fact have to play G5's on the road going forward, because most G5's will be in a position to force them to, or it's no go.

Interesting comments by the EKU coach. Obviously they see the handwriting on the wall at EKU. No wonder they're making a late push to grab the last FBS ticket by landing the remaining Sun Belt membership.

There still is no need for P5 programs to play road games against the G5. The better P5 schools can't afford to give up the competitive edge financially that home games, even against smaller opponents, offer.

I said we should have held out for $3,000,000.
Believe we would have finally got it.
Seriously game was set up several years ago though
so one reason it's not more than it is.

the money we have made the last 7 years in terms of donations, attendance, merchandise, directly connected to the first win, more than makes up for the couple hundred thousand left on the table this time, and if somehow we win this second game, we are going to make more money than ever before.

Not all P5 programs are equal. There are two tiers. There is a reason Missouri and Miami have agreed to home and home series with Arkansas State, as well as Iowa State.

Yeah, but the fact is that only a handful of P5 programs can afford to pay 4 million dollars out for three G5 home games like Florida is doing.

For every Alabama that would never do it, you'll have a Miami, who pretty much has to do it as their own AD admitted. They may not like it, but they've been priced out of the Top of P5.

If Alabama called Arkansas State tomorrow, we'd request a home and home. Now...that would never be agreed to, but if we're requesting that of everyone, you can bet basically every AAC school is as well. Money games will happen...but only in situations where it is financially a good thing for both schools.

I love this strategy and wish all of the Sun Belt could afford to do that but the reality is many of us can't pass up the payday. For GS my hope is that we can limit it to no more than one payday game per season.

I agree 100%. My best scenario schedule for Ga. Southern is 1 payday game, 2 home/home games vs. other G5 teams or lower level P5 teams and 1 FCS game per year. That would give us 6 home games every year. At a minimum that is at least 2 years in the future though as we already have 3 money games scheduled for this year (2014) and 2 for next year in 2015--- Georgia and West Virginia.
