It's not who you play...
... but who you don't play (If I got these right).

The unbalanced schedule means some (dis)advantages:

  1. ULL: 7 GS, 9 Idaho
  2. ArkSt: 5 Troy, 7 GS
  3. USA: 4 ULM, 11 NMSU
  4. ULM: 3 USA, 10 GSU
  5. Troy: 2 ArkSt, 6 TxSt
  6. TxSt: 5 Troy, 8 App
  7. GS: 1 ULL, 2 ArkSt
  8. App: 6 TxSt, 11 NMSU
  9. Idaho: 1 ULL, 10 GSU
  10. GSU: 4 ULM, 9 Idaho
  11. NMSU: 3 USA, 8 App

GS gets the gentle treatment missing out on 1 & 2.
ULL won't get to realize the relative mis-matches of games against GS or Idaho.

* The rankings aren't mine but the 'consensus'.

RE: It's not who you play...
If you add the two rankings of the teams not played together, theoretically you get an indication of the difficulty of the schedule (ignoring home field advantages). That works out as follows (the higher the number the more difficult the schedule):

App 17
ULL 16
USA 15
ULM (tie) 13
TxSt 13
GSU 13
Ark St 12
NMSU (tie) 11
Idaho 11
Troy 8
GaSo 3

(for what it's worth...)

App has the hardest, GS the easiest. Still people think App will finish ahead of GS in the rankings. smh.

It is interesting and GS fans are loving the easy schedule with this move up and new coach.

We may have the hardest conference schedule, but why is it that GaSo fans ask
why Appalachian State is listed higher on some preseason polls than GaSo?
There are other polls that say the opposite.

Its just me and I'm referring to the polls by SBC fans and the coaches. People in this conference seem to think App will rank higher in the conference, even with a tougher schedule. Just hate when App is better than us is any sports rankings (and win column). Hope we can get our act together quickly and be prepared for another battle against you guys.

That fits with what Troy fans were indicating - they like their schedule.

Ga Southern and App will compete well this year. Seeing SoCon teams Chattanooga and Samford dominate GaSt and the way GaSt took the top SBC teams down to the wire gives me confidence we are ready immediately.

Seeing how GaSouthern comes through this first year will be really interesting. Some fans may find themselves jumping off a bridge if it doesn't pan out.

Hopefully that's not the case, but I do think that some have fallen victim to that same ol' thinking that this is just the Sun Belt...anybody can win it...good luck to them, though...bless their hearts 03-cloud9

What irritates me is there are two teams I liked that are now in the Sun Belt... AND WE DON'T PLAY EITHER OF THEM THIS YEAR!

I know, it's only a personal "damn" but still... you know what I mean.

I was really, really worried about how our fanbase would handle the upcoming season until a poll on our fan site showed that most people's expectations are reasonable. The curve peaked at 6-6 which is pretty amazing from us. I mean, we lost 7 games total when I was in school so expectations are alway high.

I agree. I've watched this team from the very beginning and they have far exceeded my initial expectations. I couldn't be more proud of the Eagles. However, this year my expectations are tempered but my hopes are high.

We definitely drew the short stick this season. Hope that means we swap schedules with Ga Southern in 2015.

Your gonna have to get out of this FCS mentality of "Any Given Saturday" because it's about to be Every Friggin Saturday.....

Secondly, all the anecdotes with we scored this and ya'll scored that to prognosticate games is petty and totally fruitless......take an Ambien if you need to sleep at night.

A Tylenol too for the headache coming.....transition will not be business as usual but Good Luck

Didn't say we would run away with the conference only that we will compete well and have the potential to win every conference game. That said, the new offense is such a wildcard that it is hard to know how well we will do. I think 4-4 in the conference is a good bet.

I have no problem with you even saying GS will go undefeated and untied but only that your rationale as stated was flawed.....

Personally,I think App and GS will win earlier than later but until you experience a FULL FBS schedule for a season you will not realize how hard it is for EVERY team to keep the lugs tight.....

Our Co-Champs had TWO conference loses each....

Nope. You play the same teams just switch the home and away games. Sorry. 04-cheers

There's some major cognitive dissonance between the bolded sentence and the general agreement that Georgia State "got better throughout the year".

Maybe they were immune to the FULL FBS rundown.
