Transportation to SB Cities
I am making a Google Spreadsheet for Transportation options to (or close to) SB cities and towns. I am including Train, Airport, Intercity Bus, City Transit, Taxi, Car Rentals, and other (Cruise ships for Mobile, AL ?_. For Boone, I filled in most of each field with some information. As much as I love Amtrak I did "Trains" for all the SB locations, as that was my original interest. I finished off Boone, well, its Boone and I know the area a bit.
The link below lets anyone edit. Feel free to fill-in any information you know about the other cities. I am not yet a member of other SB school message boards so if you know of someone that might enjoy helping with their own school then pass along this link.

I just added the airports for TXST. Amtrak also stops in Austin; which is closer than San Antonio.
Couldn't tell you the local transportation, other than the school's bus system. I always drove my car to games.

From what I have been told you take a plane to Atlanta and then from there it is 16 hours by horse and buggy to get to Statesboro.

True, but San Antonio adds a different Route with the Sunset Limited. I think Austin only has the same route as San Marcos. I was trying for the 2 closest but also different Amtrak routes. If you are on the Texas Eagle in Austin you might as well stay on the Texas Eagle until you get to San Marcos, and then you are there. Or if heading the other way, detrain at San Marcos before you arrive at Austin and then have to back track. And thanks for adding the Airports part for TXST.

First you must locate a Sherpa.

RE: Transportation to SB Cities
A couple things from various travels on airports...
For GSU... Obviously Atlanta as a 1st airport, but when airfare seems over priced we do check out Birmingham.
For UL... I would think Baton Rouge would be better as a second option than MSY. It shaves about an hour off your drive, and they have a decent schedule.
For Troy... Montgomery 1st and Columbus, GA 2nd
For GS... I would think JAX would be a better 2nd option than Charleston due to it being all interstate from there. And JAX a better option than Macon due to more cities flying in.
For ULM... Monroe has an airport... but I think Delta does most of the flying in or out of it. Shreveport would be #2 for that I would think.
I didn't want to enter them, because others who go there on a more regular basis than I.
Also, regarding airports, you might want a 3rd option for major airports. For instance for GS, maybe you have #1 as Savannah/Hilton Head, #2 Macon, and Major as JAX. I know the smaller the airport the more the airlines love to gouge you. You may fly into Savannah for $500 round trip, but $300 into JAX. If you have 3 people travelling with you, $600 is worth the extra hour and 1/2 each way. Just a suggestion.
Nice spreadsheet. I am kinda the planner in my group myself.

I've never flown into JAX or CHS, but I have driven from Statesboro to these cities and agree that Jacksonville would be the better option. It's actually a pain in the ass to get to Charleston and I think I could make it to Jacksonville quicker. If you take cost into account, I bet flying into ATL and driving is the cheapest option.

I was thinking that too. Why even fly to Macon? 9 times out of 10 your are going to connect out of Atlanta.

Someone added under the "Other" sheet Best Burger, Best BBQ,etc. I had not thought of that, but that could be the best thing about this document. Feel free to add in your own thoughts on this.
I also added in locations for the Bowl Games and SB championships. Most are on campus but a few are TBD or in non-SB cities.

Thanks, I spent have 2 hours on it. Now here is the definition of irony-
My daughter is an incoming freshman at App. My wife and I are both alumni, and both high school science teachers, so we are also broke enough I am not even sure how many events I will get to in Boone this year let alone to an away game. But if others find this useful then that was the intent. And it allowed me to daydream about a nice long Amtrak ride to NOLA and other SB locations.

I don't understand why ATL is listed in relation to Statesboro for airports?

Lots of options and costs compared to closer but smaller is my guess. Feel free to edit. With the exception of Amtrak I only filled in for Boone. Each school knows better than I, and feel free to add specific notes on the airplane sheet.

RE: Transportation to SB Cities
Savannah/Hilton Int would be the 1st Choice for GS, All the others (ATL, CHS, JAX) would be only if the cost was worth the hassle or you are meeting people and car pooling.
The trip from Charleston (CHS) is about 2.5hrs to Statesboro. It's a lot better now that 17 is 4 lanes. The worst part of the trip is I-95, the stretch between US17 and the Georgia border. That road is a complete cluster half the time. If people would just go there wouldn't be traffic
JAX is about the same. I don't know what side the airport is so I don't know how much time to add to get to I-95. But that's probably 2.5 hrs too.

If the $$$ is not too much over your budget Fly into SAV. That's a 50 minute easy drive to the stadium. Charleston and Jacksonville are both at least 2.5 hours drive, but ATL is only about 3.5 hour drive.
