App's RB, Marcus Cox, has the potential to be a beast. Perfect for their offense. Ya'll will be hearing about him, for sure.

We may have had the best RB in the conference... 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

Again, the "voters" don't know this and Cox was up against mostly FCS D's. Let it go.

Lowe (TXST) was #2 last year in many statistical categories and should be first team, IMHO, yet he only made 2nd team, again. So don't be so chaffed over it.

Let him show his stuff on the field and it will likely be adjusted at mid season or end of season polling.

With only 2 returning starters on D, there were never gonna be defensive all-conference.
Offense I beleive will be reasonably productive, but no proven stars.

Hopefully team will have a chip on their collective shoulder.

Not too worried about their perception of Cox, just giving y'all a heads up this guy is pretty damn good, or at least has the potential to be.

The part I am chaffed about is "losing" the best RB we have had since, arguably, Adrian Peterson. Completely off topic, but just a side note to my comment about Cox.

Not real concerned about it. Always felt it best to be ranked as
low as possible and no recognition before the season. It's probably
the last year that will happen.
Remember we have four Doak Walker candidates in the Sun Belt.
Cox is good, very good, but other teams have some really good
running backs also.

I hear ya - and it's a team game.
And I'd rather have good players everywhere than a few stars and scond tier everywhere else.
And we've got some players under the radar.

Still, App and NMSU may be lacking the difference makers other schools have..

Just think they have not ID'd them yet, or have someone else they are more familiar with. Not sure of NMSU but think we have some good players.

The kid is on the Doak Walker Award watch list. He is one of only 9 underclassmen, one of four SB players and the only one from the six FBS programs in North Carolina to make the list. He was the only FCS representative on the 2013 247Sports All American Freshman team and only 1 of 3 non BCS players on the team. You better believe those coaches know all about him.

I'm surprised Tyler Jones is on the second team. Don't get me wrong, I think the kid has the ability to even give Broadway a run for his money on the first team, but he hasn't proven that.

Is this a down year for Sun Belt QB's? Seems kinda odd to have a true sophomore on the second team when he only played in what? 6-7 games last year.

RE: Sun Belt preseason all-conference football teams
It is interesting to note that the end of 2013 SBC all conference team had 3 RBs listed while the 2014 pre-season lists 2. The 2 listed are 2 of the 3 that were on the end of 2013 1st team (the 3rd was Andrews).

In fact, anyone that was on the 2013 end of year 1st team, that wasn't a Senior, is on the 2014 pre-season 1st team. Tells me they didn't put a whole lot of thought into some selections (or didn't need to.)

As I stated, Lowe was 2nd in total rushing yards for 2013 but still gets 2nd team. He'll just have to prove himself, again, to move up. Same will go for Cox.

If your statement about the rationale for selection holds true, we should have nothing to worry about. Jones & Lowe will be first team next year.

I don't have the time right now but I'd like to go back and see who the 2nd teams guys were from 2013 and where they got "plugged into" for this pre-season team.

I believe USA's WR ShaVarez Smith was a first team All-SBC player at the end of 2013 but a second teamer on this list.

By the way, do coaches or coaching staffs have to submit a list of their players
as candidates in order to be considered? If anyone knows.

With so many new schools I'm sure the post season all-conference team will better reflect the newbies.

ASU is getting respect because of their returning standouts but it is their newbies that will make this and future season successful. As good as the returnees are the newbies as a group are better and will take them to another level as far as talent.
