Phil Steele's forecast is not favorable.
Anyone that follows preview magazines knows how in depth PS is. His 2014 projections are not kind to the Broncos.

Overall ranking is 119 in the country. 11th in the MAC, and 5th in the West. (Side note he has the MAC slightly up this year, rated ahead of CUSA for the first time in a while )

You say " I'm sure everyone picked us there but we have a bunch back" PS doesn't win on accuracy just by reprinting last years standings. His "Experience Formula" which combines starters returning, sucess, and playing time, has WMU ranked 112 in the country, 12th in the MAC , and last in the West.

Yikes

RE: Phil Steele's forecast is not favorable.
Yep, a lot of doom and gloom for sure. Can't really argue with it.

There are a few positives though. Phil says that our QBs, RBs, OL, DL and ST will all be markedly improved, not to mention we have the best DB unit in the league. He doesn't expect us to improve a whole lot in the win column, but he seems to think we will be much more competitive this year.

He also seems to think Chance Stewart will be our starting QB, so we'll see...

He has us with zero 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team offensive players. And zero front 7 defensive players on any of the 4 teams.

At least the Broncos have a second Chance....

Keep expectations low. Anything more will lead to disappointment.

I just hope that we are competitive and improve in both coaching and play on the field.

As far as wins and losses, every game will be a challenge....That's why they play the games.

Corey Davis, 1st team all-MAC

I'm looking at the magazine right in front of me...lol

You are correct, missed that, but I'm guessing the rest is accurate. Thanks.

Yep, you nailed it with the rest. A lot of the front 7 on D is unproven: 5th yr senior transfer DT, 2 JUCO LBs, redshirt freshmen everywhere...we'll see how they all fit together.

For anyone wondering, here are WMU players found on Phil Steele's All-MAC lists:

1st team - WR Corey Davis
1st team - CB Donald Celiscar
1st team - S Justin Currie
3rd team - CB Ronald Zamort
4th team - OG Jimmy Kristof
4th team - PR Dareyon Chance

Looking for a big year out of him. The LB position is going to be one of most fun position battles in camp. You have a highly regarded freshman in Spillane. You have two well regarded JUCO guys in Sylva and Jackson. You have Brant returning, who was probably our best linebacker before getting hurt last year. You have guys like Eddie Rolle, Austin Lewis, and Trevor Ishmael who showed well in the spring.

Sorry, I see someone else also pointed this out. I just replied before continuing through the thread.

On a whole, I cant argue with much of what PS says in the preview. Coming off of 1-11 where the team wasn't competitve and counting on so much young talent, I don't see how you can realistic think it will be much more successful.

We have already been reminded repeatedly that we can't win this year, shouldn't expect to, but give Coach Nero time and, boy howdee!

This post is great.

Seems like every day we keep getting hit in the face with reality.

However, in my 16 years of Bronco fandom, it seems as though we always do best when no one has expectations. Unfortunately, we also under achieve on a consistent basis.

What's been consistent to go along with that "consistent basis"? Serious question.
