He is a creation of quo, one of many. Not a real Cincy fan.

ECU: 348,391 football fans

Conclusion: While ECU may beat UConn for gameday attendance, ECU's football fanbase is dwarfed by UConn's! Add basketball to the mix and UConn's fanbase is much much larger!

You can rely on hypothetical equations of google data, small survey's and conjecture, I'd take the people paying 60 bucks a tickets and their time to show it. Like the other guy said, there is no way in hell USM has a better following than we do.

I agree that it isn't perfect. However, these two things are based on numbers:
- ECU has better gameday attendance that UConn
- UConn has a larger overall fanbase than ECU
This derogative comment, "How many UConn fans care about UConn football?", by a previous poster was comical. The answer is A LOT! However, ECU's stadium is larger (which means you will likely always win the attendance battle) not to mention that we had to watch our last coach (Pasqualoni) tank the entire program after Edsall spent years building it. Most UConn fans didn't want to sit though that. I don't blame them! However, now we have Bob Diaco to right the ship!
ECU fans.. I welcome you to the league and all, but let's still have little sense of reality when it comes to where our respective schools sit on the athletic landscape.

Yes. Let's. You have top-tier men's and women's basketball programs.
After that... UCONN is average to mediocre.
If we're REALLY going to go down that road... I wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see ECU sweep UCONN in every sport except basketball & volleyball (our team is atrocious in vball)

We both sit in the American Athletic Conference's East Division.

You will never , ever convince me that UCONN has that many football fans. Fan support translates into gate receipts, and stadium attendance something ECU beats UCONN in quite regularly.

FYI when that survey was done, it ranked "fans" essentially by market. IIRC it showed Rutgers having more football fans than Michigan.

it shows Louisville as the smallest fanbase in the old Big East.... so that debunks the "study" by itself

Not so fast my friend, that is data taken from metered markets only. In NC there are only two metered markets, Raleigh and Charlotte. That means he has NO data for eastern NC, an area with a total population of 2.2 million people and there is no data on how many of them are watching ECU games. That is also the area where most of our fans and alumni are located. So they could easly be missing several hundred thousand viewers from there stats.
The fact is when we are on ESPN, we out draw NC State in viewers in Raleigh and draw nearly as many as UNC and that's in State's home market and not ours.

If you sweep us in field hockey, volleyball, and tiddlywinks, I don't really care! The reality is that only one of the two schools has won a championships (actually multiple championships in UConn's case) in a revenue sport. When you win a national championship in basketball or you grab that access bowl spot in football, you can come back here and crow about it. Until then, it is just talk.
In football, UConn isn't the patsy that ECU fans think. We have been down for three years, but before that we fared pretty well in the old Big East most years (and the old Big East was tougher than CUSA).

Demographics help ECU game day attendance, but there are WAY more UConn fans bouncing around the world. I don't even think it's close.

I wonder if UConn has any mythical "unmetered markets" as well. I believe that Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and unicorns all watch these unmetered markets.
