Granted, I wouldn't bet on that happening, but.... we don't play stAte or UL. As cool as it is reading an article that says this, myself, along with probably most GS fans can see this team finishing anywhere in the conference top to bottom. I think it is the uncertainty is what is making this season exciting. Nobody knows which GS (or App for that matter) team we will see.

I can't believe anyone is actually taking this seriously. His research consisted of the 247 recruiting rankings and then ga. Southern's website to write his story.

If we weren't changing offense this season, I would be pretty confident with our schedule and the fact SBC teams aren't used to the flexbone option.

However, with the new offense it is hard to know how we will do especially given our QBs will be asked to throw the ball more.

I imagine offensive production overall will be equal if not better to the last 2 years. I've seen enough playcalling under the previous staff to in no way think the flexbone would have given us enough of an advantage in every game. Way too much suspect playcalling and gameplanning. I still can't believe we put an OL out as a slot WR with an ineligible number and ran away from his side a lot, negating his great blocking ability. I saw a lot of pieces and never really a "whole" gameplan. Even the Florida game had some of those headscratching moments, but due to lack of discipline in the UF defense it worked in our favor.

Can the defense measure up is going to be the bigger question. Honestly that question was going to be there whether or not we ran the flexbone.

I'll be honest...

There is no real reason to believe (outside of being an Eagle fan) that we will win the conference this year. WWAAAYYY too many questions at this point to start claiming we will win the SBC year 1.

I completely agree; had we kept the flexbone and last year's staff I would say with some confidence that we would finish better than .500 but with all of the changes I just don't know. As I said in the OP I am just glad to be in the conversation!

Hail Southern!

While I am a staunch supporter of GSU football to the point of being an obsessive braggart there are too many questions to be answered with a new coaching staff, Modified option offense & of course a QB that can fit a system that requires more passing. I’ll admit that the article is shallow in its research and doesn’t take any of the above question marks in mind.

Still we are the (RGSU) and strange things like this have happened in our past!

4&8 or 8&4 I don’t know. How bout 7&5!04-cheers

RE: SportsWatch predicts Georgia Southern to win the Sun Belt in Football!
Honestly I don't see any team (except maybe GT and even think if we get a few lucky breaks and play perfect D we can pull the upset) on our schedule that I don't think we have a decent chance of beating. I'm not saying we will win those games, but there isn't a team I put into the automatic loss category. I believe we beat NCST (they are just a very poor team now and even with a new coach I think we win) and then we get an easy (yes I said easy) win against SSU (this is where I hope the players get a chance to learn the offense and gel better). I feel GT will just be the better team and harder to win an away game. The rest of the season will come down to depth and injuries, but on a one off match I don't see any team that I would count as a loss (some games make me much more nervous, but winnable). So winning the conference isn't so ridiculous, unlikely, but possible given our schedule.

Just GATA take it one week at a time.

Every team you play will be like playing App St at their house except nearly every conference team is better than App.

is there really any team on our schedule that you see as an automatic loss that you would be willing to bet big money on?

as the previous poster mentioned, I don't expect us to win them all, but there isn't a team that we play that I look at as "oh, we have no shot at that one". Tough games? absolutely. Big underdogs? Yeah. Automatic losses? No way.

Who is your QB going to be? That transfer you got from FIU?
Whoever they are, are they a good passer and runner?

Not delusional just confident based on experience. We may very well go 1-11 (would say 0-12 but just can't bring myself to saying it is possible to lose to Savannah St) or we may go 12-0. It will probably be somewhere in-between but I can't wait to find out which it will be.

Right now it is Ellison (starter from last year). He can run and has an ok arm (didn't see much passing so hard to tell). The backups also have decent arms and can run when needed. I think you'll see us running more often than not and slowly building up the passing game over the season.

Well I hope that HC Fritz will evaluate the passing situation and adjust to what we have. If we don’t have a passing QB yet then you’ll see more of the option ground attack our first year.

One advantage you will have with even Georgia Tech though is your upper class players being so familiar with GT's offense.
