You people ripping the ref crack me up. He grabbed the guys shoulder on one side and his arm on the other. He went down, maybe easily, but the grab and pull was absolutely enough to draw a pk. Any Tackle in the NCAA would be called for holding if that had happened in American football. The ref got it right. Yeah it threw the momentum entirely to Brazil, but that was the right thing to do.

I don't want to disagree with you, because I understand EXACTLY what you're saying here. But I'm going to anyways. If this is a good call, then the amount of PKs the USMNT is owed will equal my student loan debt. Here's how i see it, would you have called a foul for that play if it was at midfield? Yeah he had his arm, but not nearly as bad as some other jostling plays, some of which were fairly aggressive unlike this one, that we saw throughout the game that weren't called

I must say, I do feel bad for the main ref and his crew. I think they did a very fine job; one of the best jobs I've seen in a while. Sucks that one questionable call ruins the public's perception of this crew.

that was a horrible call. The damn ref decided the outcome of the game. That ref will be sent home, no questions asked. You need to understand the game before you're put on the field.

I hate the fact that they put refs on the field who have never played.

You're out of your mind.

The closest I'll come to agreeing with you is saying I could see how in real time from the refs vantage point that it appeared to be a penalty, but ultimately it was a blown call. At any rate, I hope you were cracking up at the commentators, studio analyst and Croation manager as well. You might be the first person I've seen say with no hesitation that the ref made the right call, about the closest I've seen from anyone else is vague terms like "questionable" or "controversial".

Mexico and Cameroon are scoreless at halftime. Mexico has had a couple questionable calls go there way, including a pair of disallowed goals due to offsides. Also, going off last night's president, Cameroon is owed a penalty kick.

World Cups should be officiated by English officials only. I'll make an exception for Pierluigi Collina. These refs suck hard.

Mexico getting robbed. Dos Santos got destroyed early in the second half in what should have been a straight red and the ref didnt even give them a yellow.

I saw the replay's, these refs are horrible, both goals by Dos Santos were legit goals. I'm terrified to see how the refs will be for the US.

RE: OT: World Cup Thread
The commentators (not play by play) offered that the Mexicans got robbed and after seeing the replay they are right. It's nice for them to win despite the referees. It should have been a 3-1 game.

I'm rooting for the U.S. first
The Mexicans second
and the Spaniards third.

It's a genetic thing. 03-wink

The thing is that, at the time of the call, the referee saw a blatant hold while a player was trying to move toward the ball, and the attacker went down. I see that as being absolutely worthy of a penalty. I called it in real time when he went down and felt like replay showed me what I felt was enough of a pull. Did he dive a bit? Maybe, but I felt like he was fouled.

It is a physical game, and no that probably would not be called at midfield, and no it does not always get called, but I feel like the ref was justified to make his call. Would any of you done a better job had you been on that field?

With all due respect my friend, this is a lazy and shortsighted response, one that is all too common.

Have you ever complained about a meal in a nice restaurant? Can you cook better than the chef who made that meal?

Ever criticized a movie? Could you have acted/written/directed it better?

Ever complain about a coach or player's performance? Could you do better?

Again, I can see in real time from his perspective, what prompted him to make the call and I most certainly couldn't do his job better, but that doesn'tmake me any more eexempt from critiquing him than you would be to critique an overcooked meal by a world class chef.
