Stanford at Vandy the early game. The Trees down by 4 after 1 inning. First round draft pick Beede pitching for Vandy.

ESPN announcers discussing the Supers between pitches "It's good to have Texas back in the playoffs." "The Regional with the three game set between UT and A&M drew two of the largest crowds ever at Reckling (said while laughing)".

Vandy beat Stanford 11-6 in Game 1.

Texas leads Houston 4-0 in the 5th. The Coogs pulled Lemoine (their starter) in the 5th and only had one hit through the first four innings off Thornhill but they got the first two guys on in the bottom of the 5th (interestingly they are the home team in game one of the SR).

And another single makes it 4-1.

ESPN just did a standup segment in what looked like a mobile beyond-the-fences grandstand party bus. With no access roads past the Reckling fences, I guess we could build some fancy treehouses past right & center fields ... which could be real "roosts"?

'Horns win, 4-2, as Coogs' last out -- with a runner at first -- was an easy F-7 by pinch hitter with an 0.048 (1-for-21) season batting average.

UH can come back but I'm convinced they need to start Jared Robinson tomorrow (and then maybe save Garza for a possible game 3).

That is the coolest idea I've heard in awhile (even if it was jokingly said). I wonder how much you would need to pay that guy to make a one of a kind set of "roost suites". The trees are definitely suitable for it and it would make a great episode for his show. Make the entrance bridge down the right field line or over by the scoreboard on the hill.

Both Louisville and Kennesaw pitchers catch the dreaded walk-the-bases-loaded disease in the 4th inning. But the Owls score two, while the Cardinals bounce into an inning-ending 5U putout. Kennesaw leading, 2-1.

All Field Turf for the first three games of the Super Regionals. I hate it. (Vandy, UT, Louisville)

Kennesaw scores its third run in T5 without a hit: walk, sac bunt, WP (in the plastic "dirt" that bounced only 5 feet to the catcher's right), E2 (wild throw wide of the bag and into left field).

Louisville wins, 5-3, thanks to an opposite-field two-run double in B8 ... and a shutdown closer: 2Ks and a popup from a pinch hitter making his 22nd AB of the season. (Enlisting weak final-out pinch hitters seems to be a trend for today's losing coaches.)

UC-Irvine's soft-tossing (70-84mph) lefty Elliot Surrey was kryptonite to Oklahoma State's offense tonight, holding the Cowboys to 1 run in 7 innings, while the Anteaters small-balled their way to 8. Irvine had a near-classic/tragic meltdown in B8, however, allowing three runs with mental errors. With the tying run at the plate, however, the 'Eaters got it together and won, 8-4.

Really interesting move by Augie to take the Horns turn at being visitors in game one instead of game two. I don't know when the decision had to be made but if it was after it was known that Garza wouldn't start then it makes a whole lot of sense. Even if the starting pitcher wasn't known if the gamble pays off it does provide some psychological boost winning game one as the visitor. This is the first time I can recall this happening and quite frankly didn't even know it was an option.

UH won the coin toss to be the home team. Then Augie lost the coin toss so if it goes three games UH is the home team again.

Are you sure Augie made that decision. I heard earlier in the day that home team for all Super-regionals for Game 1 and Game 3 were determined by a coin toss (as opposed to the host team automatically hosting Game 1). Are you sure Augie won the toss?

No. There's a new coin toss if there is a Game 3.

Thanks for the correction guys. So that means 7 out of 8 teams correctly called the toss this weekend? Or did some of the visiting teams call it correctly and chose to be home team in the second game?

There were two coin tosses. UH won for game one. Augie then lost for game 3.

RE: Super Regional Thread
Is this new? I always thought the coin toss was only game 3.

Or does this only apply in SRs where two non-#1 seeds of equal seeding meet (because in all other situations you can go on seeding)?

It's a great advantage to be home in game 1, win or lose, imo. Win and you've got final at bat to close it out in 2. Lose and you have final at bat to defend.
