Shinseki resigns as head of VA
Now if only Obama would follow his lead. Obama went out and blamed the VA problems on a computer glitch. Unreal.

Holy ****. 5+ years in and this administration finally gets around to holding someone accountable.

Better late than never, I suppose.

Scapegoating... it was apparent from the time that Obama proclaimed his support for Shinseki that he would be the fall guy. I didn't really follow the situation closely enough to see if Shinseki bears any actual responsibility since I knew what Obama's words meant (spoiler - not what he actually says) and that the resignation was pre-determined.

I don't know how culpable Shinseki is either, but he's had the gig for 5 years, so it's not exactly like he can claim he had no idea.

Up to his meeting at the WH, it looked like Eric was going to stick it out. 30 minutes later Zero says he tendered his resignation and he accepted. We will need a congressional investigation to answer the question, did zero actually fire somebody? like Bush did when he fired some worthless attorneys and caused a liberal uproar that ended with AG. Gonzales resigning.

Wow...news really travels slow around here.

Quote:A top official in charge of veterans' health care stepped down Friday [May 16th], the first head to roll in a growing scandal over delayed and substandard care at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals.

Undersecretary Robert Petzel submitted his resignation...

The head of a cabinet level organization has basically been fired. Why is this being touted as just being a "fall guy"?

What more do you expect?

SMH.

A CinC that is a leader. Especially where Vets are concerned. That is a bridge too far since Zero doesn't want that world to revolve around his highness.

Blaming it on him is pointless. The VA has been a mess for decades. At this point the only way to truly fix it is true an active duty medical status for those who are truly sick.

Is this the same guy that was retiring in 2 more weeks anyway? You just can't help your self can you?

In other news though, it seems The Carni is fleeing the ship as well. ADIOS you lying, scheming, scumsucking BeltwayBob of the press corps. I'm sure you'll enjoy your next gig as a 7 figure lobbyist and having all the free drinks you can stand at the tony K street cocktail parties...

Agree.

I have no problem saying that this problem is NOT the fault of Shinseki. He was the sacrificial lamb, the dead man walking. Somebody had to go and he was the current occupant of the top chair at the VA. The problem with lousy care at the VA has been present for years, perhaps decades.

THIS is what you get with single payer, government run healthcare. It is a preview of Obamacare down the line. About the only way for them to control costs is to ration care. I know a good Doc (radiologist) who worked for the VA about 20 years ago for several years. Once he left there, the stories he told about how poorly run the outfit was were shocking.

This VA problem is a systemic, cultural problem often found in government run programs. However, this one deals with health care delivery and done poorly, it kills people.

I'm not totally going to blame Obama for this mess. It just bothered me today when he said he knew bout the VA issues when he was a senator.

I don't know how many paramedics, fireman, or policeman are in this room; however, I think any from those groups could admit that VA hospitals are terrible. The one in Pittsburgh felt more like a homeless shelter than a high class hospital. I have my own stories from my visits, but won't share in detail.
