They were classless jerks the entire time and I was so glad to get a win and get out of Statesboro. GS fans that I've met in Boone have been great however but there's a sour taste in my mouth about many of their fans.

Best- Virginia Tech. Fans were great. Very respectful even though we took a dreadful beat down on the field that day. Also very solid all around gameday atmosphere.

Georgia Southern wasn't an away game for you in 2011.

I think he means 2012. That's the same year I took my first trip to Paulson. Like I said I don't recall a single ill word being said in my direction. Granted, we went straight from an App tailgate, to a GaSo alumni lot, to the stadium.

I will admit I was disappointed in the stadium's size and atmosphere. Paulson looks WAY bigger in pictures than it does in real life and all this time I thought Paulson was on par with The Rock in noise and atmosphere and it really wasn't even close.

It was still a good experience for me though and I will be back. Can't beat a night in Savannah and a day of rivalry football.

Come on down this year. We will show you guys a good time....up until kickoff. Stadium should be much more impressive this time around.

We left the tailgate a little late and were under the student section as Enter Sandman came on. I thought the stands were going to fall on us. The game however was over by the end of the 1st quarter.

Worst: South Carolina. I went in the mid to late 80's when App had Sparky Woods coaching. We were bad mouthed by every fan on the way to the stadium (including a 90 year old lady). The tailgating was terrible. The best part of the game was (memory foggy but think this is right) Leonard Lee laying out one of their recievers (may have been Sterling Sharpe) and the whole crowd going silent and then Leonard stood over him with the crossed arms. I thought we might not make it out of the visiting section alive. Sparky went on to coach South Carolina and a guy named Jerry Moore came to take his place. I think he won a few games at App. :)

Was that the game we drove down in my Jetta, it threw off a belt and we had to push it to an auto parts store so I could replace the belt?

Also, wasn't there an all girls school nearby? As we were driving down, going 60+, they put their school paper against the window in their car, and the front page had something to the effect of "Jed Clampett University" on the front?

Ok, I forgot about that one. I think I would probably have to add that to my worst list.

RE: Best (and Worst) Away Game Experience
To give you an idea of how bad the UAB experience is I will try to draw you some verbal images.

First for those who have been at USA imagine the area it is located and make it 2-3 times more sleezy.....then imagine the stadium 2.5 times larger complete with their (UAB) home crowd of 3 homeless people, 4 drug rehab runaways, 7 prostitutes, 18 parents 27 fans, and 409 police officers in riot gear.......yep that is a about it and of course the announced attendance of 28000.....

For those having never been to USA but have been to New Orleans.....think of Bourbon street smell in the morning when they are washing the puke away......and fill in the image above.....

For you that have never been to either......take your armpit on your worst unbathed smelly day or better yet your favorite obese uncle named Chuck who drinks way to much and pees on himself often and age him in the sun a couple of days and set a bunch of empty seats around him.......a put a patch of grass with white lines on it a dude in a zebra outfit about 6 to 7 yards ahead of those chairs......and when uncle Chuck passes out and lays down on some of those old chairs......oh and make sure the chairs and Chuck are in the middle of a rusted junk yard......Well if you can imagine that then you have had a virtual tour of Legionaires field in Birmingham.....complete with the UAB lizards football team.05-stirthepot

I haven't been to a lot of away games, but the fans at Florida were really nice. I've never been thanked so many times for beating a team. They were really convinced Muschamp was going to be fired the following weekend... Poor guys.

Worst visiting fan experience would have to be ODU. Most entitled group of folks I've ever encountered.

Best: Houston. Fans were great and offered tons of food and drinks. Packed stadium as well.

Haven't had a worst but also haven't made many road games. I think the worst I've seen if I had to pick were Texas Tech fans and they weren't all that bad.

Hate hearing about that crap when it happens. Most of time it's just one or two drunk kids thinking they are being funny trying to heckle visiting fans in front of their buddies. They don't realize how it makes our entire fanbase look like trash.

With our student section more segregated from our visiting fans (instead of a thin blue bar down the middle of a seating section) maybe these incidents will become a thing of the past.

Worst: Miami and USF. When your teams struggle, I guess fans try to take it out against the little guys.
Best: By far Auburn. My God, Auburn is my new second favorite team after the welcome we received. Unbelievable.

I still can't believe the response we got from ODU fans after we beat them @ODU in 2012. No exaggeration, there had to have been at least 4-5 dozen fans walking past us and the band flipping the bird, yelling "f*** Georgia Southern", and just about any and everything you can imagine getting yelled in 2-3 second bursts. Not just male students....females, older fans, even some kids and their parents thought it would be funny to walk past us flipping the bird. Even some of their campus cops were laughing and joking with some of the fans SCREAMING obscenities at us.

And of course, they played the "have fun in FCS" card as much as they could...

There was a lot more said, but I was on top of the world, so I didn't even care. We just beat them 2 years in a row in the playoffs, and gave their golden child a nice boo-boo on his head.

Best: Texas A&M. Closest thing to Cajun Field as far as hospitality to visiting fans. Awesome in stadium experience. If you haven't been there on an Autumn Saturday, put Kyle Field on your bucket list.

Runner-ups: Auburn. Another hospitable group of fans and very good in stadium experience.

Worst: LSU. 95,000 drunk Wal-mart fans with nasty attitudes and an insufferable superiority complex.

Everywhere I have been in the Sun Belt the fans have been great, even when the venues and in stadium experience was not very impressive.

One of the best away games I went to we lost. The GaSo -41 vs Oregon State Beavers - 48. The game ended with GSU on the OSU 15 yard line but failed to score with a few seconds left. GSU had about 500 yards of offense that day.
Anyway when I went to the local sports bar the drinks were free from the OSU fans. I talked to their fans for hours and went back to the hotel with a great buzz. Top Notch Fans at OSU.

The thing that got me about A&M was that it really IS a family. The marching in of the Corps is impressive; but the entire team and staff, along with the every other person in the stadium standing arm in arm and swaying from side to side singing the Aggie War Hymn after the game is incredible. Nobody not in foxholes getting shot at together does brotherhood better than Aggies.

You don't have to like them, but you really do have to admire that in the school.

Texas A&M is a cult. They get brainwashed at fish camp.

They are the most arrogant and ignorant people on the planet. I'm not talking specifically about their football fans or how they treat you on game day. I'm talking about how they live their life.

You know what I'm talking about if you have ever had a few in your office.

I wonder what he means by no culture too. The Appalachian culture is one of the most vibrant and original in the country. String bands playing on King St. Hippies showing off their art.

And if he means the tailgate culture, I wonder where he's used to going. There's a whole lot more going on in Boone on gameday than Statesboro.

I saw you guys in the corner of the stadium. I was up to your right sitting alone. The ODU fans that I conversed with all year came and got me and snuck me in to their section. The greatest thing about the game was to see the fear on their faces & the talk in the stand as we scored every time they did. ( WE JUST CANT STOP THEIR OFFENSE was the talk) Did you notice the silence of the ODU crowd midway through the 3rd and all of the 4th! It was one of the best tributes to our team that I've ever witnessed................. SILENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
