The Oh-So-Fragile Class of 2014 Needs to STFU And Listen to Some New Ideas
Really good piece.

And yeah, johnnyzero and matty, I was thinking of you.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/20...ideas.html

Quote:Millennials have grown up in a world where you are never forced to see, hear or read anything that you haven’t personally selected. 7,000 TV channels, a DVR to skip commercials, millions of websites—we have been able to curate our own little worlds using technology, wherein nothing unpleasant or offensive can creep in. So when we’re forced to sit through a commercial or, heaven forbid, listen to someone talk who isn’t Mary-freakin’-Poppins, we can’t handle it.

The entire point of college is to be exposed to different things: Different types of people, different ideas—and maybe some of those people will hail from organizations that negatively impacted poor countries, or maybe they were partly responsible for a war that ate up the country’s resources and resulted in human rights abuses and lots of needless death. But if, at the end of your time as an undergrad, you haven’t learned that oftentimes you find great wisdom in ****** people, or just that there might be some value in hearing what someone you don’t like or respect might have to say, what on earth have you learned?

It's really good to see people in that generation that recognize how ridiculous Millennials really are.

This ain't just a 2014 problem. I can think of very few people who see the value in hearing the other side. That's at any age. I don't know the writer, but she may need to jump off her high horse.

"The entire point of college is to be exposed to different things: Different types of people, different ideas"

I agree 100%.

The problem is that conservatives call that indoctrination.

Nope. You may be right that you can find people of any age that have these downfalls, but it is indicative of an entire generation that has been totally indoctrinated. Millennials are the first class of zombies.

We have our problems but every generation has.

There is a lot I detest about my generation but, and some would say in classic millennial style, I blame parents.

So, Conservatives are chastising College students for using their First Amendment rights to petition? Not only that, but it was a whopping 483 signatures. Hardly enough to chastise an entire generation.

I agree that some of these speakers may have interesting things to say, but it is the right of these 483 students to petition it.

I don't agree with it, but I support their right to do it.

Is it conservatives flipping out when the granddaughter of a black share cropper wants to talk about race? Or tearing down the signs of people who disagree on abortion?

Is it liberals who blow up abortion clinics and beat/kill doctors who perform them?

This back and forth can be done all day, but it's pointless.

Point is, the students have the RIGHT to petition, and whether we agree with it or not, it's their choice. Now, it seems like you guys are trashing an entire generation based on a petition with less than 500 signatures. That seems a little superfluous.

Had the speaker decided to not back out, they would just disrupt the speech with loud protests and ruin it for everyone. That's not first amendment rights.

It's an example of wider spread problems in our generation but not the problem. I think we all get that.

Like I said, I think the worst thing to happen to the generation is parents telling everybody what a special snowflake everybody was when 80% were average. Those kids never really found what they were good at for the most part and are no just pissed off life isn't giving them what they grew to expect out of it.

Now it seems as though you didn't realize that none of us wrote the article, and that there are many other examples besides Smith.

Huh. It's almost like you're a complete imbecile, where everything you write makes no sense.
