Flashback: Reminds me of the back-to-back-to-back bunts that Rice executed at San Jose State years ago.

...or the time Arizona did it to us with Rendon out and both Hoelscher and Manuel trying to "learn" the 3B position on the fly.

I was there. The only thing that made that trip, besides the good Rice people in the stands, was Perrott's towering shot that left that huge ballpark very quickly.

RE: Rice @ UTSA Saturday game
1/3 of our team's total hits here in the 9th. 4 so far; still only 1 out, 2 on. 9-3 Owls.

EDIT: Nice. Tekyldactyl with the sac fly to plate Ewing from 3rd. 10-3 Rice. Aquino tags from 2nd, now on 3rd. 2 down for Ford.

Stainback singles!! RBI!! Yes! And Aquino is driven in by a Ford lately. 11-3 Owls!

Byrd grounds out to end T9, but with Stainback's single, every Owl batter now has at least one hit today. 10 different batters, 13 hits; 7 of those being doubles. Great job responding from yesterday's San Antone siesta.

Have I mentioned that the WULL Scrappers won their playoff game? I bring this up twofold because I want to give proud papa Agosta a chance to strut and to explain why many in Section F might be missing on Friday...

When did Teykl get his double? I notice that he has one on the YTD stats sheet now.

RE: Rice @ UTSA Saturday game
Might have spoken too soon. Matty gave up a leadoff line single, then after a passed ball, gave up an RBI double in the gap. Offense has gone 7 up and 7 down, without a hard hit ball, since our back-to-back double fest.

Cook leadoff walk. That's a start.
Hoelscher bunt single. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. I'd definitely bunt again here, especially with Ewing on the on-deck circle.
Reeves another bunt single. Bases juiced, no outs. Time to break this thing wide open.
Ewing says your wish is my command with a clutch 2-RBI single! 02-13-banana 02-13-banana Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. And Rice has answered the next half inning after each and every time UTSA has scored. Well done!
Aquino 2-strike RBI double! 02-13-banana Runners on 2B and 3B, still no outs. BTW, that's our 7th double of the game.
New pitcher, Shewcraft now in for UTSA (5.27 ERA, .350 BAA)...
McDowell grounds out to 1B, but both runners advance into scoring position with one out. Productive out.
Teykl deep sac fly! 02-13-banana Aquino advanced to 3B, two outs.
Stainback ends his slump with an RBI single! 02-13-banana Everybody wins!
Byrd grounds out to end the onslaught.

Good guys take an 11-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning.

RE: Rice @ UTSA Saturday game
Question about tomorrow. It was strange that UTSA brought in its two co-stoppers so early. It seems that UTSA really wanted to win today. Does that indicate that the rest of the staff (i.e., potential Sunday starter) is weak.

Ranger, I know nothing about the Sunday starter - but I do know that the first two starters for UTSA were very well regarded. There was an unmentioned drop off after the first two starters, in my opinion.

Congrats CT (a couple of days late). The HBU game was our first "Growler" game and the 8th Wonder "Vietnamese Rocket Fuel" was awesome. Lots of great local brewers to support...

Not if you read my preview and comments. The first pitcher today was their co-stopper (a multi-inning stud with a 7-1 record)...their second pitcher was their co-closer. They still have unused this week their primary closer/stopper (Jr RHP Logan Onda: 23 app, 51.2 IP, 3-2, 7 saves, 2.44 ERA, .252 BAA, 7 BBs, 45 Ks), as well as two very good (stat-wise) situational pitchers-- a lefty (Sr Michael Kraft: 10 app, 2.16 ERA) and a righty (Jr Jeremy Fillipek: 15 app, 2-0, 1.33 ERA).

^^ Hey, Walt, I hate to call you out, but I just got an IM from Aquino asking why he didn't get a dancing banana for his RBI double. I'm not gonna say he's crying, but let's just say he was strumming some John Mayer feel-sorry-for-yourself crap on his guitar. In the dugout. With Wayne harmonizing. Just sayin'.

Tomorrow's starter is Jr RHP Justin Anderson...

14 app, 11 starts, 3-4, 59.2 IP, 3.32 ERA, .315 BAA, 78 hits, 17 BBs, 47 Ks

Very, very hittable to "most" opposing teams, and they've faced a weak schedule (#109 SoS).

Nice bounce back win. I still maintain our bats do best when Fox is on the mound for some reason.

Huge game tomorrow - we need to maintain our conference lead and solid hold on a regional hosting bid heading into the final weekend of conference play.

I know it was only mop-up duty, but that's the best Ryan McCarthy has looked since March. Boy, could we use him regaining the form he flashed earlier this year (and during Fall/Spring intrasquads).

This week against HBU.

In B8: C.Teykl doubled through the right side, RBI; Aquino advanced to third; Ewing scored.

It was his third hit and second RBI of the day

Yup. Critical game tomorrow as UAB is just one game back, and we can ill-afford to slip out of the Top 10 in the RPI race. A win tomorrow and the week has been a success, and we're still in control of our destiny (including for a national seed). Really need Jon D. to bounce back after a couple sub-par outings. Just win, baby! Go Owls!
