How many people donate to your athletics fund?
Our Big Green has around 3,000 members. Curious to see how that stacks up in CUSA.

I just made my second contribution this year. The major motivation for me was to continue to be able to purchase football season tickets. Since we have a waiting list I wanted to make sure I didn't get bumped out of the stadium.

Well, with our seat licenses, giving is required to keep your seat, so I guess we have at least 5,000 now.

Ditto. If you want season tickets at ODU, you do contribute to the athletic fund.

The answer he was looking for was something like 3300+ for 2013 and 2100+ for 2014 so far.

Right you are. My guess is that when all of ODAF's numbers are in there will be a slight inctease from last year's record number.

UTEP Fans do a great job supporting that school financially. Problem with Marshall is, we have remained at around 3K Big Green Club members for about two decades. They hire former coaches or people they know and do not hire qualified professionals to run the club and raise funds/donors the way it should be done. Hence, very little growth in numbers. Marshall has been milking to same core fans for 20-30 years. ugh!

RE: How many people donate to your athletics fund?
I sometimes wonder why I do give especially as much as I give. No, check that I think that everytime I see the money come out of my account.

Anyway, I would probably feel better if more people were on the same team. As the chart above shows none of us are really breaking the bank in this area. I would really like to try to understand if there is a way to move this needle especially in the mid-state of Tennesee. There is so much freaking money in that area - particularly in the counties that border Nashville and damn near all of them (well at least a large majority) who went to college are Middle Tennessee grads. How do we get them involved more? This is one area we could do so much better in...just not sure what is the best way to do it.

I actually suspect that's precisely our problem too.

It is definitely Charlotte's problem. Football will help some, but nepotism is huge in our athletic department. We hire a lot of friends, alumni, and family members and nobody is ever truly evaluated on their performance.

Contributing to a university athletic fund is a win-win funding opportunity that any fan of a university sports team should be more than happy to embrace.

1. The money you contribute will assist a young man or woman in obtaining a college education.
2. By contributing, you ensure your eligibility to purchase season tickets to see a team to which you have emotional ties -- at a ticket cost that is significantly less than you would pay for the privilege of watching a professional sporting event.
3. A large percentage of your contribution is tax deductible. Here is a charitable donation that absolutely provides you with significant personal enjoyment while providing a tangible benefit to the University and its scholarship recipients. Try claiming a tax deduction for contributing to your favorite NFL team and see how that plays with the IRS.

GO MONARCHS!

I know we are leaving, but ECU has 17,500 PC members and raise around 9 million a year, note this includes tge Student PC members, 9,000 paying $50 each.

That combined with the fact a $500 donor is seen as unworthy, we will always be small time until those two change.

Thats the mindset at Marshall as well. Our BG guy and some others seem to think there are ample big money donors in Herd land that we don't need to bother with the little guy. I look at it from a totally different perspective. IF we had oodles of big money donors they would have come on board some time ago. The fact that we do not leads me to believe Marshall needs to cultivate new fans/donors and as they grow financially, hopefully their donations will as well. I can assure you there are thousands of MU fans that could give $100-500 A YEAR; not many that can give 5-10K.
We should have at least 5-6K in our Big Green Club.
People can join for as little as $10 a month. But not many outside the BG and school seem to know this. Thats where MU needs to step up and communicate better. jmo.

I wish Marshall would do this. One, it establishes a habit of giving back to the school. 2. The student will likely remain engaged with the school and athletic teams after they graduate. That's cultivating your future fan/donor base.

Clemson has been highly successful with their IPTAY club.

But at Clemson that stands for It's probation time again YALL.

Southern Miss started a student eagle club about 3 years. Students have to join to sit in the lower deck at the rock.
