I read it from Gary Parrish so it must be true.

That will be a better hire than it initially appears.

Tyndall has done a lot with a little.
Vandy won't compete with Florida but they're sure to keep whipping Tennessee!

I bet UT fans are trashing this hire, but they're getting what they deserve for trashing Martin until he made the Sweet 16.

Even a little less delusion is a good thing for the program.

This is a good hire by them whether they know it or not.

It is a good hire for the Vols. I was impressed with Tyndell while he coached at So Miss.

I agree. Tyndall can do the job if UTK officials and fans don't screw it up. Unfortunately with Stokes, McRae & Maymon gone, next year isn't promising. Apparently UT officials had Mike White lined up as their coach until they began negotiations & it turned White off. You would have thought the way Martin left would have communicated something to UTK officials that something was wrong in their approach to a contract - that after the fans had a petition to fire Martin & go after Pearl that over 37,000 signed.

Tyndall better win big & win immediately (not likely) or the same symptoms of dysfunction will surface at UTK & they will again be looking for another coach. Given 5 years, Tyndall will have UTK competing in the SEC - but will he get 5 yrs?

Also he'll bounce around sort of like Bruce Pearl --- I think they'll like that.

You have to wonder if now being separated from Bruce by one coach will take some of that pressure off of Tyndall.

It's an out of the park pick up for utk. They have reason to be happy as long as the keep their expectations real. One thing's for sure. I believe they'll be able to keep the local Knoxville players from leaving home.

Given the manner UTK fans have historically treated past FB & BB coaches who don't win big consistently, you do have to wonder. Any rational observer would realize a new coach will need 4-5 yrs minimum to get to a consistent level of success but he may not get it at UTK.

So what does this mean for Memphis? I doubt Tyndall will be the threat that Pearl looked as if he was growing into. Will Tyndall be a recruiting threat? I know he wins at the mid-major level.

BTW --- Goodman tweeted this yesterday 03-wink ->

Here's how to determine who to hire at Tennessee: What coach that the Vols could legitimately get would scare Memphis' Josh Pastner????

Certainly not. But Goodman also said that Tennessee was "the third best job in the SEC" ... yet Tennessee was turned down by the Louisiana Tech coach before they offered Tyndall. So take it for what it's worth. 03-wink
