OK. Let's disect this. Right now the SBC is an eight team FBS conference. They lose WKU and add NMSU and Idaho which makes 9 schools for the 2014 season. As far as I know, App St. and GA Southern finish their 2 year transition in 2014. So for the 2015 season the Sun Belt sits at 11 full FBS members.

Will there be a CCG for 2015? Well, UMass can leave a year early, divisions can be created and a best record can host the CCG. So again, if the Sun Belt's timeline is to have this game in time for the end of the 2015 season, they have six weeks to get that 12th team in. Otherwise you can have some strange hybrid of the first place team hosting the second place team to determine a champion; which appears kind of awkward to me.

Just a note: GS and APP are eligible to win the Conference Championship THIS year. That point may be moot, but we are clear to win it IF WE CAN. We are just not bowl eligible until 2015.

That being said, if we add an FCS program, it needs to be my June 1st this year in order to have a CCG for 2015.

Since the 2014 Schedules are already set, it would still be 2015 before we could have a CCG anyway. The difference is that we could bring in a FBS program (UMASS) after the June 1 deadline and before the 2015 Schedule was set and still have the CCG.

The 6/1 deadline on the 2015 CCG for us only holds if we bring up an FCS and not UMass.

FCS -> FBS deadline is June 1.

FBS -> FBS deadline is July 1.

I suspect we'll hear more about UMass well before July 1.

Why would the deadline be July 1st of this year for FBS->FBS?
There is no transition period.

If we announce UMASS say July 20th? What difference does it make for the 2015 Season? Unless schedules for 2015 have to be submitted by 7/1/2014?

Now that is a moot point. There is no reason why anyone else out there who is in consideration would need to wait until late May. If it is going to happen before June 1 it could happen anytime this week, next week or whenever before June 1.

They usually hold off on these announcements until the academic/athletic year is complete. No point in creating undue hostility; though, you're right, none would exist with a UMass announcement (they're homeless anyways).

NCAA rules. FCS has to announce prior to June 1st each year.
FBS school has to announce prior to July 1st each year in order to
be admitted as a change of conference for the next year.

yeah, but you'll want a CCG played by two equally weighted divisions; hard to have that with an odd number of schools.

Equally weighted?

East - USA, Ga State, Ga Southern, App, UMass/Liberty/EKU, Troy
West - ULL, Ark State, Texas State, ULM, NMSU, Idaho.

Not so much.

Exactly. The West, as things stand now, is a much tougher division and the two best in the SBC over the last several years are in the West. I'm not opposed to a 12th member, but I see no need to rush to get 12 for the purpose of "equal" divisions when with likely deregulation, we can hold a CCG with 11. I would prefer to see the best two teams play in the championship and I would not be bothered if both came from the same division.

It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the SBC to have App and GS in the CCG every year 02-13-banana02-13-banana02-13-banana

Yea, we are used to the CC going through either Boone or Statesboro.

Remember the year that we almost had an all SoCon National Championship game played on a SoCon field. BUT - App dropped their end in the Semis.... it was a disappointment.

The only up side I see to this non-Divisional thing is that we could play each other in the CCG that way. No disrespect to ArkSt or LU - or Troy but I expect to be in that discussion sooner than later.

No, you can never capture equality in a bottle, it will always fluctuate. It will be far better to have a formula for picking the top two qualifiers. This year it would have been UL and stAte again for the final.

Stay at eleven play your best two in the championship game. Picking the best two is no less accurate than picking the best of two divisions, probably less most years.

Now go play on you C USA board with what 14 bad teams?

I'm talking quantitavely not qualitatively for divisions.

To what end? Under dereg you would no longer need divisions.
The best ccg revenue would probably be accrued with the two best teams.
Likely the best shot at getting into the mix for the G5 playoff spot is by playing your two best teams.
Staying at eleven for whatever time it chooses allows the SBC to be selective IF it indeed feels it needs to go to twelve. This eliminates the need for an immediate "panic" add.
Under deregulation, a conference can schedule as it sees fit, in the best interest of the conference and individual programs, not the forced round robin from the NCAA. This especially could benefit conferences that have had to split natural rivals in order to define the requisite divisions.

I see no downside to the SBC remaining at eleven and eliminating arbitrary divisions if in fact deregulation passes.
I see plenty of upside.

Couple of things. With divisions you develop natural, annual rivals. Secondly, you are playing two divisional winners instead of a clear number one against a clear number two. A UMass invitation allows you the bridge of time you may need to find a clear cut number 12 while you move forward with divisional play (if so desired).

It's 50/50 for sure, I just like the more elegant approach of divisional play.

I'm in support of eliminating divisions if we can have an 11 team CCG. I'd probably put in 2 or even 3 permanent rivals, and rotate through the rest.

I'd want Southern to play App and Ga State every year.
