RE: Breaking: MO State President-'no contact with sun belt'
This means diddly squat, MO state isn't ready to start the process of moving up until a few years from now, they don't want to be stuck in the MVC for a couple of years with everyone mad at them so they said what's politically correct to keep the calm for a couple years, has no body seen this sort of show before? Didn't another school in the state of Missouri do this too? And I know the valley is inferior to the SBC but dont act like we are close in basketball, Wichita state, Bradley, northern Iowa, and southern Illinois have all been to the sweet 16 this past decade.

Did Wichita lose its coach? Either way, the perception of the MVC hoops league is one of strength; whether true or not. Recruits are going to flock to those programs from the midwest. How many hoops units is the MVC sitting on? probably a ton with more to come. There was a time no one had heard of Gonzaga either, they went on a tear and now they've been on the map for what seems like decades. Wichita could go on a similar type of run.
So to say it's 'dumb' to think Missouri St. isn't moving to the Sun Belt because of hoops money, only goes to show your own naivete.

This is really the bottom line. They are afraid to pull the trigger due to MVC basketball.
When the MVC is depleted they will leave, if its not too late, or when they have an admin with a longer-term vision.

For every Gonzaga there are many more flash in the pans. So them banking on the unlikely is in a word, dumb. That assuming they even stay in the conference. It is not a matter of if but when WSU HC is gone.

What's 'dumb' is not giving enough credit to the number of units the MVC already has in the bank which are paid out over five or six years; and the potential that confernce has for adding more. Those schools can also start to pay their coaches (because of this money in the bank) similar dollars to mid-level P-5 schools.
Do you know how many units the MVC has earned in the last five years?

RE: Breaking: MO State President-'no contact with sun belt'
Valley basketball isn't falling apart anytime soon as long as solid ball schools like Murray state and oru are at our doorsteps for invites, BUT MO state is going to chose to move up in a few years and this will be completely independent of the valleys basketball status. I think what was said is meant to be that they aren't going to jump into fbs without time to get ready, and if they are gonna have to spend some time in fcs to straighten things up why take your teams out of a solid fcs olympic conference, realignment is a long term decision and doesn't occur in the short time frame that realignment junkies like us wish.

Hog....wash. If they wanted to move, they move. FIU was still in diapers when the Sun Belt said, it's time to move up. FAU, UL-M, Troy weren't even members when they got the call. You can try to spin this 10 ways from Sunday but we've all been down this path ( many, many times); there won't be a second call.
MO State didn't want to move and don't want to move. If they did, they would have. No president is going to sit there and say 'maybe next time' if they really want something, they make it happen.

The NC FBS schools focus too much on basketball besides us and ecu, Duke has had one good year in ever, unc is meh, ncsu has fan base and had a good recruiting year but last year was ugly, Wake forest is... Wake Forest and UNCC is a just out of swaddling cloths and lost to multiple teams under d1/aa

That's pretty sad then. If you ask a girl to the prom once, twice, thrice and four times and she keeps saying no; you begin to look like a sap. Look to Texas or Florida or steal someone from the MAC; anything before going back, hat in hand, to them.
The Sun Belt asked WKU to upgrade football in 2004 because we had a dire need. WKU said no, but in the end when the time was right for WKU you didn't see the league jack them around the way C-USA did UAB (forcing them to play 3 or 4 years as an indy before allowing them in) or USF (forced into I think 2 years as an indy).
It's not like Mo State when approached has ever said, "Go to hell we don't want in your league" they have been rather consistent in stating they aren't ready or capable of FBS. They need another 5,000 seats to even be viable as an FBS and while they have drawings for what it would look like, they don't have the money in hand to make it happen.

There are very real reasons why ASU and Missouri State want to be in the same league. Most have to do with exposure.
Its not like the SBC goes every year. We asked when ULL and ASU moved into the SBC. They were asked again when the league started football. They were asked again when NMSU, Idaho, and Utah State left in 04. Reports say asked again this year.
Each time came at a point when the SBC needed members.
Our TV coverage and theirs overlaps. We play fairly regularly in a variety of sports because the travel is easy but we aren't fighting for time on the same TV stations.

Unless I've mis-counted, the check they receive next year (2014-2009 tournaments) will have one more unit ($258,000) than the Sun Belt check.

we all know how each of our boards can say one thing and it take off as fact. But just like most things probably 99.99% that can't be proven with a link to something actually quoted is false.

Has the Sun Belt offered a FB-only deal for 4 years? At 2 years, they have to commit to the Belt or then they are done.
Do transitional teams receive part of the college football playoff money? The MVC teams get more than that from the NCAA. Mo St wants both checks, but worries the MVC check will fade out.

Uhh...since you are the one who provided us the documentation of Idaho's 4 year agreement, I would figure you would know the answer to that.

One can understand Mo St's reluctance to leave the MVC disbursement while the Wichita State run is being paid out. The MVFC isn't the same a the MVC, so Mo St can withdraw from the MVFC without withdrawing from the MVC for a couple years.
I don't run FOI requests at every school! Some make you pay for info that turns out worthless.

ASU trying and actually invite them is a totally different ball game. So the ASU presidents calls MSU and says "you interested in moving to the SBC"?
I don't call that "being asked"

I know around 2005 it was public knowledge that the Sun Belt contacted the Bears. It was in the Springfield News-Leader.

I'm not suggesting it was just ASU. It was written about in 2005 that the SBC was trying to woo the Bears, and I know we tried before the MVC really was formed.
ASU is in frequent contact with MSU...but I am talking unofficial SBC Conversations.
