RE: Blue Gray Game
The tailgating was excellent. Perfect weather for it as well. I can only hope they change to Saturday NIGHT next year, because I would really like to compete in the BBQ contest and be there all day before the game. The bathrooms were open, so that was good... There was the best crowd ( numbers wise ) I have ever seen for a spring game. I'll leave the estimation to someone else.
If you are looking for analysis beyond some of the previous posts about the players, I don't view the spring game as being able to shed any light beyond "Paxton's passing looks improved".

Paxton looked much improved. Very smooth and comfortable. Paxton and the Juco transfer were battling out for the starting spot, but from what we saw tonight, it appears as if Paxton has become the sure number 1.
My thoughts, as well. Paxton looked comfortable and threw some really nice passes. I hope he keeps this up. Looked great.
Paxton threw some nice passes last season but many of those nice passes weren't caught. Do our receivers look more capable of consistently catching the ball? Any recap of the game & individual performances would be appreciated.

Great question, and the main reason this thread was derailed. Using my Psych degree from an SEC school in Nashville, as well as over 12 years on this board and its predecessor names, here is what I ascertain -
It's a Zero-Sum game for this crew. And understand, it's not a large contingent on here, only a handful or less. And three of the handful all posted in this thread. A couple may be banned.
-- that zero-sum game pie chart for them looks like this - 100% Tigers, 0% anything else (not counting the Redbirds)
-- they resent any attention away from what is near and dear to their hearts
-- they don't necessarily care about the city's growth / well being
-- they are typically an older demographic, and in some cases perhaps already retired
-- they ignore things like the fact that the big $$ supporters of the Tigers are also the same for the Grizz - FedEx and their execs, our former bball coach and current bball coach, part owners who are former Tiger players like Penny and Socks
-- they are strong and fervent Tiger football fans
-- they could care less about all the positive attention the pro team brings to this city and the national PR we get from all that
Hope this helps. I will continue to support all things Tigers and all things MEMPHIS.
To maybe help you and the few on here who like to throw stones at people just because some don't support the Grizz. As I've stated before. I don't hate the Grizz, I just don't like the NBA product, don't support the Grizz or any other team in the NBA. Doesn't make me or any other person a bad civic minded person. I do support, besides the Tigers, other things of civic interest that help the growth of my fair city. I also happen to love the city I was born and raised in and still call home.
Well said.

RE: Blue Gray Game
Wish I could recap the Spring Game but I was busy with the BBQ Contest and Feed the Players after the game.
I do know this. The Team and Staff walked thru around 180 slabs of ribs that were cooked along with 6 pans of beans, a huge pan of Mac & Cheese, 250 slices of Texas toast, and 240 assorted cookies.
To all those that participated in the BBQ cook, the Team and Staff very much enjoyed the food.

Anyone know what happened to Carl Harris, the running back from Dallas. I do not see his name on the roster this year.

Let's just leave it at this and stop the childish back-n-forth, as we ARE all Tiger fans and I really don't like getting in these little tifts with other Tiger fans. We all love the Tigers. Some support the Grizz, some don't, no biggie..... I will now leave your lawn K2, with no hard feelings on my end....GO TIGERS!!!!
I'm not throwing stones at anyone. I just don't understand why the people who don't support the Grizz have to be so proud of it. I don't care what you like or don't like but not liking the Grizz doesn't make you cool, it doesn't make you anything. In my opinion people in this city SHOULD support good things that have Memphis attached to them but that's just my opinion. Those who choose not to support the Grizz are missing out on great fun.

I can only speak for me, of course, but I don't hate the Grizz. I'm even sort of a casual fan. At one time I was nearly a season ticket holder, but I don't like the NBA. However, if others love the Grizz I'm fine with that.

I wish local government and media understood that what is best for the university, IS, in the vast majority of cases, best for the long-term interests of the city (and county).

I do not think there are any other entity (save FedEx) with a greater symbiotic relationship (in a broad sense) than The City of Memphis and the University of Memphis.

Same goes for Tiger baseball and it's a HELL of a lot more affordable (free parking, cheap concessions and $5 tickets ($3 for seniors). As a matter or fact, in my opinion, also more fun. Incidentally, the CA today, reported that Miss State (whom we beat) set another national record for the largest on-campus college baseball attendance yesterday against Ole Miss at over 15,000.

I would be more likely to believe that if the city were not planning to charge more for parking than UofM does for football tickets.

Unfortunately, it is that relationship begun prior to the construction of Crump Stadium, that has kept (more than anything else) our university from admission to the big time. While not so much a direct obstacle in today's environment where money is virtually the only consideration for admission, lack of OC facilities was a major issue for our university in the 60-70s when we were competitive with the SEC. The political attitude that our university for stadium & arena facilities funding should somehow be tied to or routed through city coffers has been perpetuated since the original Crump Stadium decision. And even though OC facilities is not the most important issue today, the perception it has left among power 5 schools that our university is just a commuter school, continues to plague the reputation of our university, deters involvement by alumni, limits interest & enrollment by prospective out of town students & robs the university of revenues associated with OC facilities. And, as has been mentioned, if our university had OC facilities for FB & BB, the city of Memphis would benefit substantially by the inevitable surrounding development.
