Basketball arena rankings
From the college sports forum. Some questionable choices on this list, but you have to give them credit for taking the time to get all 351 arenas down in a list. MAC rankings are below.

54: Convocation Center (OU)
101: Savage Arena (Toledo)
135: The MAC (KSU)
138: Stroh Center (BG)
191: Millett Hall (Miami)
205: Worthen Arena (BSU)
251: The JAR (Akron)
256: University Arena (WMU)
286: Convocation Center (EMU)
296: McGuirk Arena (CMU)
307: Convocation Center (NIU)
330: Alumni Arena (UB)

The problem is, they are one of many small groups, so visits and reviews are not updated regularly. Their review of Alumni is 4 years past, before we upgraded the arena and saw average attendance jump by 1000+. Besides UB, there are many other outdated reviews.

I think Alumni Arena is an awesome place to watch basketball. The layout of the stands leaves much to be desired but we have the best tech/sound package in the MAC and I'm not sure if it is even close.

RE: Basketball arena rankings
love this quote about the Convo-

"Now keep in mind it was a dreary, rainy afternoon on the day of the game I attended, but the attendance was a disappointment, about 7,500."

seems like realistic expectations.

The author apparently didn't attend an EMU or Miami game.

RE: Basketball arena rankings
My rankings would be OU's convo, then Toledo' Savage, then BSU's Worthern, EMU's Convo and NIU's Convo as best stadiums not during game day.
I haven't been to a ton so I can't speak for every arena. The Akron JAR, CMU's McGuirk, and the BG Stroh don't impress me architecturally.

I like that in at least the top 3 (Ohio, Toledo, and Kent) that he specifically mentioned the basketball bands as being excellent.

RE: Basketball arena rankings
Lots of great programs listed below my team so I can't complain. Seems reasonable to me. And I'm not sure a sound system can really be much better than the one in Savage Arena. It's clear and the place rocks when it's turned up. I'm used to going to Bulls games (the Chicago breed) and UT's sound system seems the same if not better to me.

BTW, is that KSU's basketball arena in Axeme's signature? If so, it looks like a cool place from the outside.

RE: Basketball arena rankings
I find it dubious that a D1 college basketball "gymnasium" with the following description beat out every arena in the MAC-

"The gym seats 2,345 for basketball, but Draddy Gym itself has a full track, batting cages and a basketball arena all under the same roof." "A Jaspers game is very much a PG atmosphere, and I wouldn't hesitate to take a kid to a game. In fact, with all the area to run around inside of the gym, most kids are racing each other on the track or diving into the foam pit that the gymnastics team uses behind the bleachers"

sounds like a glorified Chuck E Cheese.

The bowling green fans say "you had me at 2345 seats."

If most kids are doing those things it doesn't sound like much "PG" is going on.

NIU's Convo should be way, way higher ranked.

No, wait. Scratch that.

I was always curious where Manhattan College played bball in Manhattan. Now I learned the college is in the North Bronx. Thanks for putting infor on the gym.

And Im curious how a 2345 seat stadium can be that much nicer than a lot of other stadiums.

RE: Basketball arena rankings
They factored in the atmosphere, concessions, location, etc. into their rankings in addition to how nice the arena was. Hence why the EMU and NIU Convos are towards the bottom and why South Carolina-Upstate is 15th.

It's unfortunate how long ago this guy visited Alumni Arena, because the place looks nothing like that anymore and it much better than 330th on the list

Quote:The Hodge Center is...well, let's just call it "intimate". The arena seats 818 fans, which means that just about everyone is going to get a great seat to see the action. The only seats with a questionable view are those behind the hilarious Spartan Army, the Upstate student section. The Spartan Army stands throughout the game and certainly makes their presence felt. The students are small in numbers, but quite loud in volume.

They rank a 818 seat arena at #15.... NUMBER 15?

They lost all credibility.

Basketball arena rankings
Seating capacity was not a factor in their rankings.

It should be. I can have a 10 seat arena and say the whole stadium was rocking but that doesn't mean anything. Not saying it should be the only ranking, but to have a stadium for 818 people beat stadiums like MSU's stadium is a disgrace.

How can Duke be 31st? Winthrop ahead of them?

Kansas is 6th? How is Memphis' better than the temple that built basketball.
