Levelle Moton possible HC for FAU or Marshall basketball?
Rumor on the Owls nest that he was interviewing and visiting this week. As I'm not a basketball guy was wondering what folks here thought about him.

He's the current coach at North Carolina Central.

Alot of Charlotte fans want this guy but it doesn't seem like our coach is going anywhere soon. Nothing against FAU but it would be odd move for him. Another NCAA for NCCU with him at the helm and some much bigger names will come calling.

RE: Levelle Moton possible HC for FAU baskeball?
In February, when we thought there was a chance Major would be fired, someone brought Moton up as a candidate. The general consensus of our fan base was he was definitely worth a look.

-Coached a Div. II transitional team into a D1 MEAC team with an NCAA bid and first round win in 4 years

-82-45 (0.646) over that period, 28-6 this year.
http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coac...ton-1.html

-seems to have lots of connections and quite a bit of charisma, also just seems to resonate with a lot of his kids.

He seems like a great up and coming coach with a lot of potential.

Edit: Also what WH said... if FAU or another mid-major doesn't snag him this year and he has another successful year at Central, I think a struggling power conference team will take him.

Thanks,

Nothing official on this just a random poster but I know lots of you folks are from the Carolina's and would have more information.

Appreciate anything you can add.

I live in the Raleigh-Durham area, and have heard him on the local sports radio. Seems like a pretty charismatic guy with a great rags to riches story.

IMO , he would be solid.

Moton would be a great hire. That said, I'm not sure why - no offense - he would go to FAU? Seems like a lateral move at best, especially if he can consistently win and get to the NCAAs at NCCU.

He's a really good coach and has two impact 757 players currently sitting out a transfer year. One is a 6'5 guard from Norfolk who played at Marquette and another a 6'9 C who played at JMU. I wonder if those players are able to be released if he leaves?

RE: Levelle Moton possible HC for FAU baskeball?
He went to NCCU and helped them win a D2 national title when he was a player. I don't think a School like FAU would be able to lure him away. He has a deep connection with that University, and from what I've heard of him on the radio, he seems like the type that wants to build his alma mater up.

That being said...he's making about 100k a year. Another mid-level or upper level school could offer him 5-10 times that with ease. It would be very hard for any person to leave that type of money on the table. I'm sure even if he did leave and it didn't work out...he would be welcome back at NCCU with minimal issues.

They'd have to sit out again I believe. They could apply for a waiver and would probably have a decent shot at receiving one, but it is no guarantee.

I think they could get a waiver considering the coaching change but NC Central would almost certainly bar them from going to FIU.

I'm afraid we won't make a move until after the NBA season ends to chase the D'Antoni dream and all of the candidates like Moton will be gone...

Lots of rumors D'Antoni is leading candidate. Big upside to hiring him, but it's also risky. If he doesn't make the transition to college Hoops it would be awkward to dismiss the head of Marshall's Vision Campaign.

I wondered if the top choice isn't an assistant from one of the sweet sixteen teams since anyone else could have interviewed and been offered the position by now.

I still holding out hope that we can get Jim Crutchfield, if not then Duggar Baucom definitely peaks my interest.

The more I learn about Moton, the more I like about him. My only concern is that he recruits a lot of JUCOS.

I just read a piece where it says Murry Bartow is "in the mix" at Marshall.
Please take him. Please. Ill learn the words to the Marshall fight song and sing them loudly the next time the Herd comes to Middle Tennessee.
