I can't wait to see the stadium in a couple of weeks, the Blue White Game is really a great opportunity for people who've only been able to watch the construction webcam to get a chance to see the "new" Paulson....and from every indication it's extremely impressive in person.

Do you think the stadium will ever get a nice smooth facade face lift?!

Kinda like this.... http://plvcolin.blogspot.com/2012/02/wal...nsion.html

Forgot how low budget Duke's stadium looks. Am I missing the video board somewhere? Rocking that track out, too.

After the renovations, it should look pretty good, though.

Would love for Paulson to have a brick facsade, ala Doak Campbell.

Saw it for the first time this past weekend. Absolutely freaking beautiful and impressive. You can see the top of the stands all the way down Lanier Dr, and I'd imagine about near Greek row and definitely from the booster lot.

The pictures do no justice whatsoever to the expansion. I think a lot of folks are going to be floored when they see the "new" Paulson.

The FOC looks top notch and very "big time". The video board is going to be a lot bigger than what we may have initially expected.

Rumor is the board will be full HD 1080P LED. There won't be a bad seat in the whole place.

From the "Ask TK" segments on gseagles.com, it appears we won't officially announce anymore expansion until we double the season ticket holder numbers. Once that happens ( and we're helping our own cause with limited seats ), I expect the home side to get expanded out to add about another 2,000-3,000.

Third deck on the visitor's and/or more decks and new luxury and press boxes on the home side, I hope, will be done within 10 years.

If you are on the bypass headed towards 301 from Lanier, you can look back and see it through some of those pines above the Campus Club complex, not a great view, but just something that's there where before there was nothing--kinda neat to me.

10 acres of land near our campus will run you about $15M to $20M. Hence we lease te Dome. Still hoping we make a move on the Ted.

BS. Atlanta is not a high cost of living city. Tons of schools in much more expensive locales have their own crib.

Atlanta is the number 2 city in the country for best ratio of salary compared to low cost of living.

Atlanta is a relatively inexpensive place to live and raise a family if you're like most of us and move out to the burbs. Building a stadium downtown however, (on the GaSt campus) is very expensive compared to the rest of the state. There just isn't much property available that is large enough to build a stadium on.

GA State should try to buy the TED From the Braves. You are not going to get a new stadium in downtown Atlanta.

They just paid a church $15m for a plot of land barely larger than my backyard to make way for Georgia Dome II. Downtown real estate is super expensive.

Property and stadium are owned by the city not the Braves. We have been "acquiring" vacated downtown property since WW II. It certainly can happen. In fact we were offered Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium post Olympics and we balked (Timing was not right of course). It actually is in the city's interest (taking off GSU hat and putting on Atlanta resident hat) to cut some sort of deal with GSU as developers wanted no part of that land WITH the Braves there , much less without them. But I can totally see an underwhelming deal occurring whereby the Ted is torn down and we get a small portion of the land. Not sure President Becker is a big enough out of the box thinker (Unlike his predecessor) to go for the big bang. And right now we do not have an AD who can articulate a big vision to him and say "Dude you need to do this to secure the next 40 years!"

Part of that cost also has to do with what they are trying to build. If someone was just wanting to buy that plot of land by itself, I guarantee it wouldn't go for anything near that.

And I guarantee you you are dead wrong. There are literally hundred of parcels of land accross downtown that individual families have held onto for decades waiting to cash in. I know for a fact that if not for the relationship we had with the former owner of the parcel where the law school is going up we could not afford the market price for that land. I am not sure you realize where we are located. When you see a picture of Atlanta's downtown skyline we are smack in the middle of those skyscrapers. The law building is across the street from the 52 story Georgia Pacific tower and across Woodruff Park from the old Equitable Building. We also bought a couple of acres on Irwin street for Intramural Fields and that cost $3.6m.

a couple of acres right in the middle of atlanta for 3.6M, compared to 14m for a plot of land no bigger than your back yard.

That's a big contrast

The point is that you likely need at minimum 15 acres for a stadium (I actually talked to a couple of people who think you can shoehorn one into 10 acres in an urban setting) and there is not a lot of chance on getting that for less than $7m -$10m unless its a gift or they are friends of the university and sell for the city appraised price. If a stadium plus 60 acres comes available you have to sit down and start talking to people and say "Ok, what will it take" because its a once (in our case twice) in a lifetime opportunity.

51 :) I work there.

Panama is right on this one. Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead real estate is pricey. Cheaper than say Manhattan or San Francisco but some of the priciest in the Southeast. Real Estate prices have caused companies to move to 285 because it is much cheaper.

Building a stadium downtown however, (on the GaSt campus) is very expensive compared to the rest of the state. There just isn't much property available that is large enough to build a stadium on.

They just paid a church $15m for a plot of land barely larger than my backyard to make way for Georgia Dome II. Downtown real estate is super expensive.

Part of that cost also has to do with what they are trying to build. If someone was just wanting to buy that plot of land by itself, I guarantee it wouldn't go for anything near that.
