and both have represented well on this board imo. but some of your guys took baggery to new levels before the tourney. ya'll had the best team all year but i've watched hoops too long and know that other squads gel at the end of the year and anything can happen come tourney time.

i think ga state can build something special as long as jesse....i mean ron hunter is there. when/if he leaves it all depends on the next hire.

as an older guy listen when i say to enjoy every good year because they're never all good. go kick some @ss in the nit and use it to build for a strong preseason next year.

Eh, I don't fault anyone for bold posts, really. One man's baggery is another's confidence. We see it from all sides on here. I just temper myself because I hate eating crow, even in a pseudosemipublic forum like this.

And despite the disappointment, I'm looking forward to the NIT and hoping for a great run. Those bids don't come every year, either, so I hope yesterday wasn't too much of a letdown for the kids to come out swinging tomorrow.

It's a "rivalry" in MBB for as long as Hunter and Marlin are around likely. Maybe it's a "rivalry" due to the fact that Falcons and Saints share some overlap with GSU and ULL. But it likely will not become a "Rivalry" because of geography. Our alums do not work or live around each other. Our campuses are not within driving distance.

UL and WKU aren't close either and both fan bases will tell you about that rivalry. Rivalries are made on the court and the field, not driving in the car.

i was thinking the same thing. and it's been through several different coaching staffs. same with us and south al.

you two were basically the only schools that gaf about hoops.

unless there's a paradigm shift toward hoops then ga state needs to latch on to someone else that actually cares.

because most DON'T.

Impressive when an old guy uses a $2 word like paradigm. 04-cheers

As for Hammer, forgive him, he's suffering the indignation of going 18-1 in conference and the playoffs, having an 11 point lead with 5 minutes to go, and seeing it all slip away at the last second.

This is why I can hardly listen to basketball on the radio. My heart isn't strong eough these days.

I look at ULL the same as we had with UAB back in the day.....

players you love to hate
coaches you love to hate
school you hate losing to more than most

you will never say it out loud (or at least wait 5 years after the fact) but deep down you respect all three on the list. OK maybe not Jesse Evans but as for the players even the "so called" "thugs" (I say that in a context everyone knows...I really do believe that 99% of these kids are really good kids) you would love to have them on your team.

So even in the hate you still have the respect to know they are a program that can beat your ass and care about what they put on the floor. To me that sums up what a rivalry should be. The same can be said about USA and to a lesser degree UALR but that one isn't at the same level as ULL and USA.

Then you have your hated border or instate rivalry that ....you just hate and even if you respect any part of them you would never say it out loud.

We actually pulled off the interstate and found a place to watch the last few minutes and overtime of this game. I had to take a really hot shower when I got to my son's apt in BG just to get the dirty feeling off me from cheering for ULL 2 out of the last three days....

couldn't wait any longer not even the hour it would take to drive the 70 miles to get home! ULL has a good fanbase (use to be great at one time) that's just waiting for a tourney run like this to happen to get behind their program. In a way ULL reminds me a lot of WKU a proud program trying to get back to where they were. Where we different ULL is still football first and WKU will most likely always be basketball first.

From what I saw at the SBC tourney GSU has a fanbase that was wanting a winner and ready to explode if they can build on this year. A core group of fans that will grow as the program does. For this program I think Hunter has the right ideal when he said....

we can't get great players out of high school but we have a shot at great local players 2 years later.

my guess is that jesse/kermit hunter is gonna take ga state to the promised land solo so they don't need no stinkin' rivals.

in spite of choking away a tourney with the best starting 5 he'll ever see at ga state.
