Be interesting to see how the Bobby Hurley story plays out...Ill bet he thinks he is destine for bigger and better real soon. Thumbing his nose at the second tier post season is an interesting approach for a rookie coach.

Hard to believe EMU gets a home game. Maybe 500 faithful will show up.

Hurley, what a twit. Too good for the CIT huh? What a nice message to send to your players. Dambrot has the right idea. Extra practice and playing time is what it is all about. Hurley needs to go back to breeding and racing his thoroughbreds. Never look a gift coach in the mouth!

I wonder if Hurley said anything like "we're Buffalo...we don't play in the CIT."

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-...50908.html

Quote:Indiana athletic director Fred Glass announced his decision Sunday night, informing the Indianapolis Star that the Hoosiers planned to pass on the chance to headline the CBI. Glass left no doubt why the school was declining the invitation, telling The Star, "We're Indiana. We don't play in the CBI."

Wow. Indiana's AD is pretty dang cocky after that statement. This paragraph I'm about to post really makes their AD's decision look incredibly dumb.

[It was only four years ago that VCU won the CBI and carried that momentum into the 2011 season, making the NCAA tournament and going all the way to the Final Four. It was only three years ago that Oregon won the CBI and followed that up with an NIT bid and two straight NCAA tournament appearances.]

VCU is a powerhouse in basketball. Oregon speaks for itself. How can you pass up that opportunity for vital experience with such a sorry excuse?

Hurley sent out 2 tweets yesterday. The first one was a picture of his kid dressed head to toe in Duke gear with the quote "March Madness, Hurley style!" and the second tweet said "UB Bball '13-'14 set the standard 4 the future. It's heartbreaking this team didn't get 2 shine under the brightest lights. Love our team!"

typical Duke elitist d bag.

Jim Christian just put Hurley on blast on his radio show, saying he was disappointed UB turned down a tournament because it doesn't help the MAC. To quote- "It's awful...If you don't feel like you want to play because you think you're above it, then I'm embarrassed for you."

Is that Hurley's call or the AD's? I imagine Hurley has input but the AD would have to be on board. Too bad for Freelove and their big guy, seniors with pro prospects. Missed opportunity to show their stuff for scouts and agents.

I'm glad to hear that JC came out and stated that. Hopefully the coaches in the MAC use it to help recruit against him now.

And as to whose decision it is...it is dependent upon the program. Ultimately, I'm sure it is the AD's responsibility of all schools to accept or decline but as to where the decision is being made is dependent upon the individual AD's leadership style. Some will be like micro-managers who have to make every decision and other will leave mostly all decisions of this level to the basketball coach and simply approve the decision and some will be somewhere in the middle.

not sure but I'm guessing both parties have input. With the new AD's rebranding efforts to try and grow The University of New York at Buffalo's profile I'm sure it wouldn't be a hard sell for Hurley and vice versa.

Wow, I'm shocked at the hate for Hurley on here and in a supposedly unbiased article from the Plain Dealer. Who cares if Buffalo decided they didn't want to shell out the cash for a meaningless tournament?

Also, the Indiana AD is correct. Indiana's goal should be the NCAA every year. If a school with Indiana's rep isn't picked for the NCAA, then they should shoot for a recognized tournament, like the NIT. Hell will freeze over before you see Indiana, Duke, UNC, UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse, or any traditional power choose to go to the CBI or CIT.

That should be every team's goal every year. Indiana's rep ain't what it used to be. But take it or leave it you come across as a smug jerk when you say it like that. They certainly proved they aren't too good for either of the lesser tournaments. The bigger concern for the AD is the hit Indiana's rep takes when they lose to New Jersey Tech or someone in the first round.
