No we don't. We have athletes that play basketball. Very little elite skill. Argue that all you want.

"We" don't do anything-- you're not tasked with trying to maintain a civil and enjoyable place to post. The moderation staff is, and does.

If you have an issue with how the forum is moderated, the proper venue to air those concerns is via PM.

Of course, if you don't like the way the forum is run, you're always free to participate in a different forum, instead. I understand there are two or three others out there dedicated to Tiger hoops.

Wow. He gets 7 years before he has to make a single sweet 16 appearance? The standards as far as winning in the dance have really slipped here. We are apparently a program that is just grateful to make the dance, never advance.

AMEN!
Been saying it till I'm blue in the face. Tiger blue in the face.

Like I said before, I gave CJP this year AND next year to make the Sweet 16....only because of the mess he inherited. I also think we can all agree that THIS was THE year for CJP to make the Sweet 16. He can still do it this year, but given this last performance (at home, no less!), he's going to really have to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

Tonight's performance was dreadful and I think the committee is going to seed us probably a 9 (or if we are LUCKY) a 10. Would rather be a 10 and beat a 7 in order to play a 2 seed. We are so incredibly inconsistent that I really have no idea how we'll play in the Big Dance. None.

Coach gets paid millions to train the athletes into basketball players. And it's not like we have guys staying a year then leaving like UK.

But then and again, Pastner has said that coaching is overrated.

I disagree with Marc on virtually every aspect of life, possibly including the color of the sky...but I think the question was legit, and you talking down from the lofty moderator chair was inappropriate. I assumed you're supposed to remain above the fray, not start a new one.

NO. It was not a good game by the players or the coach. 26% from the field is not going to beat anybody. Plus I think we only shot 55% from the free throw line.

Again, issues of moderation are to be discussed in private, via PM. This is a rule in the AUP, and there's a set policy of a 15% warning for every infraction. Just for future reference.

But to answer your/his question--

I would most certainly merge 24 threads that were mostly 1-3 posts each, mostly saying the same thing, that would've been better placed in a game thread--regardless of whether they're after a win or a loss.

People come here to DISCUSS the game-- not read a series of monologues. If a poster cannot be bothered to look down the front page and make his or her pithy statement as a reply to an existing thread on the same topic, that hinders discussion, positive OR negative.

This is not a chat room.

But the thing is, that doesn't happen after wins, so it's a moot point. For whatever reason, it's only the losses that bring about this sort of behavior, very often from posters who are invisible when the team is doing well. THAT is not against the rules, so I'm not making a commentary on that (though I certainly don't think it seems healthy). I'm just saying that THAT is the reason a similar merge seldom happens after a win.

To a larger point-- the moderation staff here try our best to be fair and helpful. We do not wish to enforce any one point of view, and wish to encourage responsible criticism AS WELL AS positive posts; both are in bounds and appropriate, as long as they stay in bounds.

But the reason I didn't offer him an explanation is that I don't owe him one. Moderation of this forum is a volunteer position that requires a lot of work; very often, one moderator is trying to stem the tide after a loss like this. Sometimes judgement calls are made, and occasionally, perhaps even mercenary tactics have to be employed to keep it together. We realize that some will always be dissatisfied, but we encourage (in fact, mandate) that ALL of those concerns be addressed privately. It's the way it has always been, and the way it will continue to be.

Comparing apples to squirrels. No matter. We were still awful.

Of course if he went 7-23 next year he'd be fired. However, the people that actually know the people who write his checks have continuously claimed that the check writers are not dissatisfied with him.

Finch lost 4 to Cincy, with Penny.

Took Kirk 3 years to make the tourney. And amazingly when Keith Lee showed up we got really good. Great coaching.
Kirk cheated.

Cal cheated.
