Pastner on Nick King [Louisville game]
Josh was on with Geoff Calkins and was asked about the playing time for Nick King in the Louisville game:
1. With both Crawford and Dixon in early foul trouble, he felt that Damien Wilson was better suited at guarding the perimeter than King. Said that King is going to be a tremendous player but has work to do all this summer with a strength trainer to work on his feet in guarding perimeter players better for next year
2. Reason why he went with Pellom instead of King late in the game was that they needed a bigger body against Harrell who was being a beast at that time
Also said that people shouldn't take too much out of Joe not celebrating afterwards because Joe is not a rah-rah kind of guy and doesn't show a lot of emotions and that he will eventually bounce back and will talk to him as he did this past Friday to Crawford who stepped up big on Saturday

I guess then that Calkins did not inquire about any physical issues with Joe.

All King does is produce every time he's in.

A coach has an incentive to maximize the play of each of his players in order to win games. A coach, an expert in his profession, through practice and games knows the strength and weaknesses of a player and wants to place the player in a position to succeed.

RE: Pastner on Nick King [Louisville game]
Yes, King produces with rebounds/scoring/hustle. But as Josh said, he is a DEFINITE liability on defense. Going with Wilson was the correct choice as he is much quicker and can stay on his guy better than King. And really that's all Wilson had to do and did while he was in.
Glad Josh pointed it out, I've been seeing it all season.
King will be a GREAT Tiger over the years. A likely 4 year player, who will get better and better each year. Future is bright, and he is already helping win games now.

Best quote of the day, all Nick King does is simply produce - rebounds, tough inside rebounds, hustle plays and points, hard fought points. He is going to be fan favorite for many years to come. Nichols and King on the court at the same time will be exceptionally dynamic for the next three or so years.

If you watch Joe in the locker room celebration video he was celebrating and talking when they were about to call "family" or something like that up.

RE: Pastner on Nick King [Louisville game]
His biggest problem is his defense. He struggles guarding the 4 and 5 because of strength issues (which can be taken care of in the off-season). He is too slow footed to defend the guards of Louisville (which he can also work on in the off season).
He's one of the main reasons I'm excited about next year. With some hard work, he can develop into someone who can guard inside and outside and become a major asset defensively just as he obviously will be a major offensive asset.

Right now Nick's strength is in the paint. He's too easy to guard-right now-because he's so one-handed. He has as much ceiling as anyone on this team, IMO.

RE: Pastner on Nick King [Louisville game]
King reminds me of DJ's first 2 seasons in how he contributes every time he gets minutes yet when someone mentions his contributions they are met with people pointing out all his limitations. It took 3 years for people to realize DJ's contributions outweighed his limitations, hope it doesn't take as long with King.
Though I do belive King has a higher ceiling than DJ and is more likely to be able to plug some of the holes in his game, and he doesn't have the asthma to deal with.

I have heard differently, but hey bash the kid, all he has done has been an ironman since hes been here. If you think he doesn't get hurt, your not watching the licks hes taking. He has never once made an issue out of it and never will, but just because the kid doesn't come out and whine and cry about an injury doesn't mean he isn't and doesn't get hurt. Thats not his style.

I'm not bashing anybody. I do however know he doesn't have an injury. He's in a funk and it happens to every player from time to time. He'll bounce back.

Jiminy Crickets!
I asked a simple question due to the opposing views that I have seen on this board.
I have no idea, am not an insider, and am in no way bashing anybody. I've been a Tiger fan longer probably longer than you have been alive.
I played football so you really aren't telling me anything about getting hurt in sports. But I have no idea if some type of injury has contributed to his recent play, which most definitely has many Tiger fans concerned. And that includes me.
I did not, and am not, asking Joe to come out and whine about a damn thing.
With the interest in Memphis basketball and all the media coverage and insider information, I would have thought it a fairly straight forward matter for some of those sources to address a question asked by so many posters. The speculation has been going both ways.
Dad gummit, please don't be so sensitive and jump to all the wrong conclusions---which you just did!

Is it your opinion or fact? If fact, please cite source.
I respect your opinion and I like reading it, but an opinion differs from a fact.

Can't believe how many times I've argued with people about this.

Nick's footwork and foot speed may need training but the kid is PRODUCTIVE AND SHOULD BE AT 18-21 MINUTES per game....experience will make him that much valuable and greater next season...
