Anyone on this board familiar with Texas State University?
I was clicking around the rival boards in the neighborhood of CUSA, SBC, and AAC schools when I stumbled into TSU's board. TSU signed a lot of JUCOs and, at the high school level, just big boys. Still, I was surprised by the number of competing offers from CUSA, AAC, MWC, and BCS schools.
Obviously, TSU has its positives and, for anyone on this board familiar with TSU, what are the attractions that seem to enable TSU recruit well? Just curious....

Of the 12 FBS schools in Texas, TSU is the only one considered a regional university, and it is definitely not highly ranked. That may be part of why they are able to sign so many JUCO's. Plus, if I am a college aged guy, I would love to live between Austin and San Antonio for few years. I just looked at a few photos, and it looks like an attractive place to live, too. Texas has so many schools that I'm not surprised that many of their abundant players stay near home rather than to perhaps higher profile programs in other states.

Dennis Franchione is the head coach and it is in agreat location...near Austin and San Antonio. Personally don't care much for the campus.

Coach Fran is a hellava recruiter. Texas St has an awesome campus. Texas St has a mass scholarship attitude. They will fire 100 offers out and if 10 stick its a win. Often times Texas St will be a kids first offer. I'm sure Fran is offering 6th graders as we speak.

Big school with a ton of students, good looking co-eds, 30 miles from Austin, 45 miles or so from San Antonio. After Coach Fran quit/got fired from A&M, he eventually went back to Tx State. He used to coach them when they were called Southwest Texas State. They recently finished a stadium expansion that seats 30K or so now.

Big attraction, it's a college town has a reputation as a real party school, which makes it real attractive to college age kids. If you are outdoors person, San Marcos is real attractive from that perspective too. Real nice topography, springs, rivers and alike. Just a little quick history President Johnson LBJ graduated from there, when it was known as Southwest Texas Teachers College.

TXST one of the biggest schools in the state (30k) and is regional/masters level school. It's located in San Marcos about halfway between San Antonio and Austin which is where most of its students come from. It has a reputation for being a party school. The campus is nice, clustered on a group of hills above the San Marcos river. Students are mostly UT t-shirt fans and spend their weekends partying in Austin.

The "Texas State" name helps as it associates them with the likes of Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.
There are hot girls. (Some in this picture are more attractive than others...)
They have a brand new stadium.
Their uniforms are pretty cool.

RE: Anyone on this board familiar with Texas State University?
As a Texas State fan, I can try to touch on it.
Everyone has mentioned that Texas State is a large university that has a great location, beautiful campus, and beautiful coeds. We are the fifth largest university in the State (behind A&M, UT, UNT, and Houston)
We are located 30 minutes from Austin and 45 minutes from San Antonio along Interstate 35. We are very easy to get to and it is a popular part of the state. Because our location, we have good weather throughout the year (It will be 75 degrees this weekend).
The campus is on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. We have rolling hills, a plethora of wild life, and a crystal clear river on campus that the students hang out around throughout the year (which means swim season is year round).
We also have a reputation for having a good time. This is what draws normal students here.
For Athletes, all of our athletic facilities have recently been upgraded. The students approved a $20 per credit hour athletic fee which keeps the improvements coming.
The verdict is still out on Coach Fran. Good or bad, he has reputation and a Rolodex with Texas High School coaches.

The campus is absolutely beautiful. They have a lot of students, and they seem to support their sports teams well. By the way, their team name is the Bobcats not the Armadillos.

Regardless of how old the stadium is, its really, really, really nice. Droolworthy was my review of their stadium after seeing USA play there last year.
