RE: Cincinnati / Louisville
Day after the loss
Quote:I think we win out.
Reason: The team had played great in the their last 3 games before Cincy. I don't care about the competition...the defense and rebounding got better, and our offense was more efficient. Then we had an 8 day lay off and brought Jones back into the lineup. They looked rusty as hell in the 1st half, and Jones was overly conservative...passing up numerous wide open shots. Once they got settled in, they outplayed Cincy but just made some mistakes at the end of the game. Those mistakes are correctable.
Also, this team plays well on the road. IMO, we are better than Cincy, Memphis and UConn and will win those games. The key will be staying focused against teams that aren't marquee. I think this team can do that. Pitino has ways of setting goals late in the season, and motivating teams to achieve those goals. It wouldn't surprise me if they get the "we're going to win our next 10 games, win the AAC tournament, and get a 1 or 2 seed" speech this week. Can they do it? That remains to be seen, but I think they can. I'm not going to let the first half against Cincy take away from the improvement they have made in January.
It's time to take the next step. I believe they can do it.

It's interesting that UCONN, Memphis, Louisville, and UC all keep winning on each other's home courts.

Oh, I think the team will be ready... 5/3 is our floor and we are perfect there so far this year.

We'll see about that!
But it is very strange. It must have something to do with the away teams getting hyped up for these big games on the road...
On another note, we all knew UC would be good this year, but I don't think many thought they'd be this great. Congrats. A great surprise for the AAC.

Cinci is a very well coached team. Their athletics are just a cut above the rest of the AAC, I just cannot see them still being in the AAC come 2016-17 or so. If they were located about 150 miles south, they'd already be in the B12.
Congrats on the win, I hope you can keep your coach, I am jealous.

He's a UC grad. I don't see him going anywhere.

I think he was saying he doesn't see UC being in the AAC by 2016/17.

"I hope you can keep your coach" means that he thought a bigger name may come calling. They have for the past several years and he has stayed true to his alma mater. I don't see Cronin going anywhere as long as the school continues to be committed to him and his program.

It is awesome to have UL, Memphis, UConn SMU Cincy all playing a high level. The country has started to really take notice! It will be a great stretch run and tourney. I think we will see all 5 in the NCAA 4 are for sure... That is a statement! The arena was electric last night as well as all of these arenas for the balance of the season! The UC campus
is a buzz! Mick is amazing!

UC fball HC job and bball HC job are two different animals. The last UC coach to bolt for another job was Catlett, back in the 70's.

If it's the same Catlett I am thinking of, I never new he was with UC; thought he was with WVU from the time UK lost the Legend and hired Joe B. Hall instead of Catlett, interesting.

Gale Catlett. Same guy. His first coaching gig was at UC (1972-1978(where he went to three NCAA Tournaments and an NIT. He left to coach his WVU, his alma mater.
He was successful on the court for UC, but left a trail of NCAA violations that crippled the programs for the following decade. Huggins came in in 1989 and turned it all around.

SMU needs to step it up. They didn't look very good the other day losing to USF. Great win by Cincy, watched the game it was nice to see them finish it off after Louisville rallied.
Cincy is well coached and very athletic. I could see them making a major run in the tourney if they play like they did last night and Kilpatrick continues to play well.

RE: Cincinnati / Louisville
I think Cincinnati is destined to be the flagship basketball team in the American. I see the American power structure like this 2014 forward:
1. Cincinnati
2. Memphis
3. UConn
4. SMU
