It is time for the big 12 to embrace its roots of central time zone state universities.

schools that are modeled after oklahoma state, kansas state, and Iowa state.

Candidates are Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Memphis, Arkansas State, La Tech, Southern Miss.

But of course none of those programs are ready to be a P5 program now, but maybe some day they will, especially if Texas leaves.

so if those schools are the ultimate goal, how do you start building towards that today.

the answer is stay away from schools like UConn and UCF that dont fit into the "Big Central" footprint.

also while west Virginia does not fit, the big 12 cant afford to lose WV right now, so the answer is to build a bridge to WV, not another island. So it might make sense to add Cincy even though Cincy does not fit either, but at least Cincy builds a bridge.

So in conclusion. This shou be the plan.

Now - Add Memphis and Cincy

in 5 years - add Arky State and Mo. State and change name to "Big Central"

In 10 years - add La Tech and NIU

Big Central 2025

WV, Cincy, Memphis, NIU, Iowa State, Kansas St, Kansas, Mo. ST

Texas, TT, Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, OSU, Arky ST., La Tech,

Our new AD has already talked with people within the B12 as to what NIU needs to improve to be considered for membership. He is working tirelessly on the recommendations. His biggest challenge will be to get more of the 180k living alums in the Chicago land area involved...currently only about 30k are involved at all.

That top division should be called the Missouri Valley Conference, and the bottom should be called the Big 12 (or Big 8 if they want to correct the error).

Yeah our AD did something similar. I didn't ask if he asked Texas though since they really run the Big 12.

Agreed. The key to any upward movement for NIU will be tapping the alumni base in Chicago to get more involved and help the school grow its brand. The Chicagoland area has over 9 million people and there are a lot of alum. A small bit of that potential was realized the last few seasons with increased coverage by the Chicago media outlets, respectable TV ratings, and higher attendance. The key now will be converting some of those people that got reengaged with the recent football success to commit to the school long term. The potential clearly exists though for continued sustainable growth.

Wow, ha ha. We're dreaming big at least.

I'm trying to understand why any power conference would add a school that hasn't played a down of FBS football. You already see the Sun Belt and MAC having consternation about doing that. If the Big 12 wanted to add population for the sake of population, they might as well go after schools like Colorado State, Tulane and Memphis that have established FBS programs.

If they really want to create an eastern Division I'd say double down on the FL schools, throw us in there, Cincy, Uconn and ODU... call it a day.

ECU, USF, UCF, UConn, Cincy and ODU football would absolutely explode in their regions if they were associated with the other B12 schools. You'd most likely see all of these schools averaging 50k+ in 6-7 years in that kind of conference.

The B12 has made its 10 team bed; now it must sleep in it. Either the 10 team model succeeds...or the conference blows up. Its either A or B. I don't see any alternative Plan C to add teams in the cards.

Totally agree here. Sure if it blows up, the leftover teams will have to do something- maybe the Big 12 lives on in name and expands then. But there is no point in guessing what a 12+ Big 12 will look like with the likes of UT, OU, KU, etc. Those teams will be gone in that scenario. If the 10 team Big 12 can maintain comparable revenues (like it has so far), then 10 is where it will be in the future.

No way.

Those two programs are, sorry to say and in no way trying to be insulting, way too small for serious consideration.
