Actually, we were pretty bad on special teams when he was here. Our kick coverage was pretty terrible and he made punters punt rugby style.

UABs net punt ranked between 10th-50th when he was spec teams coach. How is that bad again? How does rugby punting make it bad? That's like saying running the spread offense is bad. U make no sense

Touche on the punting, I just don't like it. See if you can find kick coverage stats, cuz I can't find nothing on that. I just recall it being terrible.

Coverage stats weren't that good not horrible either but we didn't have the #'s then nor the quality plus they played more the bench warmers rather that the best athletes/starters that happens now.

With Jordan Howard in our backfield I wouldn't care if we didn't throw a pass all season.

You can still run the spread (Auburn) without throwing the ball all over the place.

True. I just like the thought of two tight ends and a fullback coming at you leading the way for #7. Not sure what he ran in high school but I'm sure he'd thrive in any scheme.

I concur with this guy. We just need to find some tight ends that can block besides backman at times.

I always thought Pickren was a scrappy guy that wouldn't mind getting dirty and knockin heads with some DEs. Not quite sure who our fullback would be next year. Maybe Neal grey?

IIRC I think that was the plan for NG but that was McGee's maybe not whoever replaces him

Speaking just for myself, I'd like to see Pickren moved back to DE. He was a real wrecking ball in high school, in arguably the toughest region in the state.

Its easy to have an aggressive defense when you have an offense like Oregon or Auburn...

Check that. What I'd REALLY like is for him to quit being jerked around and allowed to settle into one position.

Yes! Steve's a good guy and could compliment Backman well. What are our other options at te/fb/h-back?

Don't we get Henderson for another year? He's like having an extra tackle on the field.

Yes Tristain should be back next year. Both he and Kennard will be Seniors and Steve a Redshirt Sophmore.

Forgot about him. The two tight end set will work. But odds are the new HC will run the spread and can Owens. Don't really care what happens as long as we win.

I am probably as interested as anyone as to what side of the ball Steve will be on next year....But unless they sign some TE that is where I expect to see him... But you never know what a new coach might want to do.

Steve seems to have great hands for a TE. He will do well on either side though!

The kick coverage stats were not great but it helps when you have a kicker that can put it through the back of the end zone like Ty can. Those stats are screwed to because we pooch kicked a lot

No one loved the rugby punting, but that was what Trey was best at. Summers made the game plan out of what we were given, and was very successful. Kick cover sucked, but we didn't have kicker that could get the ball past the 5 consistently with Zahn or with Ty his first year. The rule change, moving the ball up 5 yards, is what made the real difference there. Summers was also a heck of LBs coach. I think you can give him credit for helping develop Burdette, D White, P Bastien, G Irvin, L Ware, and Darrion Wilson. All of which turned out to be solid blazers.

RE: Tyson Summers
Yeah I think his better attribute was coaching the LBs not ST. Trey did well but kick coverage sucked on punts and KOs. From what I heard, he over worked Ty and that's a big part of why his touch backs weren't more the first year. I don't blame him for Zahn but that kid never put it in the endzone. I thought those last few years of special teams with him were bad.
