Or it could be that their $3 Billion endowment is tied up in real eastate value like tulane's Billion plus endowment. They own damn near all of New Orleans Business District. Academic endowments don't mean diddly when you are talking about athletics. Hell actual athletic budgets don't mean squat because the reporting of said budgets are not standard. The true evaluation of how much money any program can spend is directly related to how large is their football operating budget.

If Hudspeth lands the Vandy job at least he can stop complaining about being in a conference with a bunch lowly former FCS schools.

Cajuns can talk down on Vanderbilt never having a chance at a national title all they want, but I know one school where he will have ZERO chance at winning one. Hint...he is at that school now.

Or he could stay here and build his resume until he gets a job that he does have a chance. He will by far have his best team next year. 19 starters returning all his players and a manageable schedule. Why is Franklin considering leaving? If he thought he could win a NC at Vandy...he wouldn't even think about leaving. It was reported that Vandy is willing to match penn state offer.

No he would have a very, very, very slim to no chance of winning one here but there's an opening at another SBC school where he'd definitely not have a chance at a NC or SBC championship Hint Hint 05-stirthepot03-lmfao03-nutkick

The best he can hope for will still the NO Bowl. That's the point. At Vanderbilt, he'd at least have the chance of playing in a decent bowl each year.

I tend to agree with the Cajuns on this one: Given the output of the team he has had, plus a senior laden team next season, he should have a shot at cracking the top 25.

If he does that, then he should have other options at coaching positions. Not sure if they will be SEC, but he should have other attractive offers (meaning more $$$, better shot at being top 25 more often, etc).

It'd be a gamble for him no doubt... I guess it really depends on if he's a gambling man or not.

I guess he could have went to latech and played in the NO Bowl...and I'm not talking about New Orleans. He turned down more money to go to Tulane. He turned down ULM before he took the job here. He is a smart man, he will only go where he thinks he can win and the right situation. He obviously isn't all about the money. He stated at north alabama for 7 years turning down several higher profile and higher paying positions. I think his family also plays a big part in where he goes and what he does. There aren't many but there are Gary pattersons and Chris petersons that commit to a scool. I personally think HUD is one of those guys. He has been given everything he has asked for here. He can make just as much money here. He will be at a million dollars a year soon but he doesn't have pressure. As long as he would compete here he would have a job. We are building him a $120 million in facilities and stadium upgrades. His salary and assistants salaries have gone up dramatically since he has been here. He does his own thing, our big boosters don't have there thumb on anyone's neck. As long as you win they donate and stay out of the way. They lend him planes, helicopters vacation homes and anything else he needs or wants. Lafayette is a great place to live. The majority of people I went to school with that were from other parts of the state and country still love in Lafayette after graduating. That's rare, most people go to college then go back to where they came from.

There are only 120 or so FBS head coaching jobs available, so I'm sure should Vanderbilt call for an interview he would. But you have no idea what motivates the guy and having spoke to him on the subject, he would leave for a program on the rise (Louisville) or a program that has the facilities and the funding to compete for conference championships and national championships. That is his criteria and unless UL finds a way to piss the guy off, I expect him to follow that career path.

If he gets a call, he'd be crazy to not be interviewed.

It's a good rub to have his name associated with an SEC school, even if it is one of the lower tiered SEC schools. Can do nothing but help his stock.

He has already turn down an interview with Kentucky. But Vanderbilt is another matter and a better program.

I wonder why he would leave the premiere conference...the SEC to go to penn state with all those sanctions. Vandy has a 3 billion dollar endowment.

Wasn't directing that at you...unless you are feeling guilty about something. My point is money isn't everything. It's a lot but it's not everything. There is a lot that goes into athletic success. If james franklin believed he could compete for a national title at Vandy...he wouldn't be leaving. It's been proven you can win a title in the SEC with having 1 loss. I do t think any other conference will provide a coach that. He obviously feels for whatever reasons that Vandy doesn't have what he needs to compete for a national title.

Penn State Athletic Budget $100.5M
Vanderbilt Athletic Budget $61M

Also, Vandy football broke even last year while Penn State football posted a $30M profit WITH sanctions.

Penn State wont be winning a national title anytime soon. NCAA will make sure of that.
