JJ and Austin
where were they 2nd half?

JJ had a nice stretch in first half where he was dominating. Then, his production was nowhere to be found in 2nd.

austin was nowhere to be found on court in 2nd.

Probably a "match-up" or "feel" thing by Coach P....

15 point loss at home, in front of a packed house.

Coach Finch used to do that to guys ... they'd get 25 minutes one game and 2 the next, and he would say it was about the match up. Drove me crazy ... it's really hard to be effective without knowing where you stand in the rotation.

On national TV.

Really hurts our national image.

I was wondering where Austin was the whole 2nd half. Still a bit strange for a BB Wonderguy to be "OUT" of the game.

So..................................... what's up? 07-coffee3

RE: JJ and Austin
Made no damn sense. Austin has clearly hit a wall so it's not surprising to see his minutes reduced. He's got to toughen up. Just way too soft. But to sit him the whole second half? Why?

And Pastner sitting Joe like he did just blew my mind. He had a great first half and along with Pellom actually came to play. Then Pastner inexcplicably sits him for long stretches. This was made worse by Dixon pulling his stupid crap and throwing up selfish uncalled for shots time and time again. Yet, Pastner kept Joe on the bench. Joe is our best player and their is no excuse not to have him in the game as much as possible.

He wasn't out for long stretches; he played 35 minutes.

Joe sat because he wasn't playing hard. Jason Smitg tweeted about it during one of the timeouts saying Pastner asked Joe what was wrong and that he wasn't playing hard.

For us to be elite Joe has to go full speed all game. He seemed to get frustrated today like he did in the loss to Oklahoma St

I think JJ and Dixon on the court at the same time is just toxic and disruptive to our offense and overall play, and not just because they're both 6' or less. Maybe that's just me.

RE: JJ and Austin
Joe sat on the heels of a bad turnover and then a hanged head. He has been a superior player this season and was for the most part today- but had a tough few minutes, so he sat for a bit.

A very little bit.

Had he stayed in and turned it over again in that very short period he was otherwise out folks would be moaning about that. This team will indeed basically succeed or fail at the highest level on Joe's back, but even he is not immune from a very short sit-down. He came back in and missed the front end of a one and one. In its total, Joe was good and without him we would have been way down at the half- but he struggled a bit and sat a wee bit.

Not a big deal and not the reason we lost the game. Cincy stopped turning it over, made timely threes, played stellar defense while we had a few too many fumbles, poor three point shooting and once the tie game went to down eight, a poor finishing effort.

Not likely to happen more...but so many here have been screaming for less guard play and more big men play yet Joe goes to the bench to settle his nerves for a minute and that is now wrong.

Thank you. What wall has Austin hit? The kid is almost gravy when he gets it on the block.... and what he lacks in athleticism he makes up for in skill, tenacity and sound fundamentals.

Austin missed bunnies.

And missed rebounds.

He was not missing them earlier.

He will get it back most likely, maybe even Thursday. He is not Keith Lee- but will take some Lee like performances and he very well may give them consistently with more games under his belt.

well to take your best player out in crunch time when you are losing is beyond poor coaching.

CC wasn't playing hard. Shaq wasn't playing hard. Both of them were not going for rebounds, not boxing out, not helping on defense etc etc.

Apparently Pastner is watching a different game

Austin was 1-4 today and had a nice finish. He looked fine to me and most everybody else watching. Much better than Shaq early. Certainly much better than CC and Dixon and Geron. Don't try to justify his benching when we had so many others looking so much worse today.

It was a coaching boner. Golly gee.

Golly gee?

Yes. Exactly. He indeed went 1 for 4. But that 1 was nice. The other three were not and he was getting outrebounded. I was otherwise quite complimentary of him and even with his poor performance today believe he probably should have played a little more. The offensive rebounds given up were major- as they kept Cincy in the game early.

Shaq had a rough game as well- did get 6 boards in 35 minutes, 2 for 5 shooting. IF the point is it was unfair that Nichols sat more with a poor performance than Shaq did I get that- but the idea that Nichols was having a good game while getting manhandled by Cincy is off.

He is smart, he is good, he ha played better before. I expect a really good effort by him on Thursday- especially on the boards and on defense, which needs some work- the 2 blocks notwithstanding.

to my eye, nichols didn't look overmatched. I remember him getting a mid range shot blocked in a weird possession. I remember his finish, I don't remember his other shots. I thought he was trying to block out and playing decent defense. i thought others (Shaq, CC) were not going hard to the glass at all and that was more of the problem. i don't think he was bad, just average

I have to wonder what games some of you are watching. Austin has been struggling for a few games in a row now.

This team goes as Joe goes. Just look at the two blow out losses. In those games Joe has not played hard and at 100mph. For us to go deep Joe is going to have to play hard and at 100 mph.
