That is so wrong. UAB rarely goes on a fast break.
Yeah exactly, I don't know why they were saying that.

I wonder if he means for this year's class or for future classes. Either way, Haase is a tireless worker. I know it may be premature, but at this rate, I wonder how long it will be before some other program comes calling to try to hire Haase away from us.
If he continues his current career trajectory it won't be long.
God willing, if we made a tourney run in march, it could be as soon as the end of this season..
We need to get some of those donors that were willing to start buying in on the OCS to be ready to step up and help us keep Haase.
If he was being remotely honest by saying that UAB was a destination job, then I would think until/unless the UNC or Kansas job comes open, then we should be able to hold on to him as long as we recognize his hard work/success with contract extensions and raises.
Now that I've said all of that though, can't we just enjoy what he's doing without worrying about whether or not he will stay?

Definitely. After the last two dismal seasons, I'm really enjoying this.
He doesn't seem to be looking for the next big thing, like XCMA and XCMD, but you never know. If he does well enough to get hired away to a program like UNC or Kansas, I'll just have to say great job coach and thank you.

Haase is building a strong program. Strong recruits coming next year. He is not going anywhere. He is on a mission to take UAB to uncharted territory. I believe that. He is not going to cut and run, like Anderson did.

I didn't bring it up to try to take away from anyone's excitement or happiness about this team. But I do think it's important that we all be mindful of the possibility so that we can do our best to prevent losing him to another program.
Of course, there's virtually nothing we can do to prevent him from going to a Kansas or UNC. But if the current trend continues, we will likely this year (or next) be having to fight off suitors. We need to be prepared to act and not get caught with our pants down.

I truly doubt teams would come calling for Haase after this season. I'm not sure he would leave either, especially with what he has coming back. I think year 4 is when we may have to start worrying if we continue at the current rate. One thing is for sure, Mackin did a phenomenal job with this hire.

Auburn came pretty close to hiring away mike Anderson after his 2nd year. I think our team has the *potential* to go on that type of run. You don't think he'd get some attention if we did that well in march, especially with how bad we were last year and our mediocre to lukewarm expectations preseason this year?

RE: UAB Northeastern
My personal opinion (not that anyone cares):
Haase does not appear to me to be a Mike Anderson, but rather a Brad Stevens/Shaka Smart. That said, I think he stands a fairly large chance of remaining at UAB unless he is offered an elite opportunity. I've seen Bammers on al.com asking to hire him already. That's not a job he leaves UAB to take.
If he did leave at some point, that's why you keep his assistants happy. Butler has hired their last 3 or 4 coaches via promoting from within. It's a good tactic and keeps the program going. We need to take care of Ehsan and Riley.
To this point, we need to support the program monetarily as best we can. Buy as many season tickets as you can, etc.
As usual, the true issue comes back to the BOT. They know they can limit Haase's salary to make it more likely for him to move along if they need to. I hate being a conspiracy theorist here, but it's not really a conspiracy when you have historical evidence to support the position.
Currently, Haase's contract runs through the 2016-17 season and is:
$425k base, + $50k in promotional fees
Bonuses:
INCENTIVES
Outright regular season conference champ -- $25,000
NIT invitation -- $15,000
National Coach of the Year -- $50,000
C-USA Coach of the Year -- $25,000
NCAA Tournament Invitation -- $35,000
NCAA Tournament second round win -- $37,500
NCAA Tournament third round win -- $37,500
NCAA Tournament regional final win -- $37,500
NCAA Tournament national semifinal win -- $37,500
National champion -- $125,000
APR
975 or better -- $35,000
950 to 974 -- $25,000
How much would the BOT allow us to pay? And would they pull the ultimate screwjob whereby they held UAB football hostage to do so?

Also, I didn't bring this topic up. I'm just joining in the discussion.
I'm not worried about it happening. I just like talking basketball. But anyways, if it happens, it happens. If it happens after year two, it likely means we went on a hell of a run in march.

Haase has a nice opportunity for some incentives this year.
Didn't we pay Davis around 600-700k?
