So great defense doesn't rate? You're probably right, but the Rice D was something else.

Congrats! When do we find out who hosts next weekend? And I don't agree that a 17-13 score should factor into the site. Rice's defense was dominating. Tulane has a good defense and played well in the 2nd half especially.

I think the decision-makers should take into account the sappy commercials we had to deal with. Those really disadvantaged us.

MVP: Rice D.
The D had to be almost superhuman for us to get this done. That is a problem.

Good thing we have a superhuman D.

We need to figure out how to score in the second half, and make sure to avoid those costly turnovers.
The reason we didn't score more and Tulane had this score was because of turnovers and an inability to sustain drives in the 2nd half.

So you read the Rice D's superhuman effort as an ominous omen? Another take is: this D is for real and they played to win. No disagreement from me -- our offense is inconsistent and just can't seem to get it done in the 3rd quarter.
Still, as a lifelong Owl fan -- we not only won, we won our conference's western division.

Keep in mind, the computer polls don't take the score into account. And most of the media didn't actually watch the game, and quite frankly, neither team is likely to be ranked in either of the Human polls anyway, given that both came into the week unranked. It all comes down to the computers, in other words.

Marshall's going to get votes. Wait and see. That is all they need, assuming we don't get any.

Good post! I hope you're wrong about West "effin" Virginia, but I suspect you're right.

RE: Tulane Game Thread
Awful offense in second half. Tulane's defense made great adjustments in the second half. Our option offense had no option in that half.
But the real story is what a defensive performance. All units. Great run defense and pass defense was beyond superb. Gaines and Callahan must've had those guys blanketed. All we heard coming into the game was how the Tulane passing offense was off the charts and we SHUT THEM DOWN.
Would've loved to see a better played game by our offense, but a win is a win, and we're going to the championship game. Hopefully in Houston, but looking like West Va. realistically.

But the polls have been unequivocal in saying that receiving votes != ranking for an unranked team. That means it's down to the computers. And the computers probably aren't going to change their mind too terribly badly about which one of you goes in front of the other.

Who would Marshall get votes from?
They have a crappier schedule than we do, so there's no reason anyone should be trying to rank them ahead of us.
They are going to be a tough game, as I think they match up well against us (i.e. they have a mobile QB).

We had this discussion somewhere on here a few days ago. Apparently, votes for them vs. no votes for us would be a backbreaker. Someone else can explain why.

Why? The only team of note they beat is ECU and, because they lost to Marshall they're gonna lose the few votes they had. You really think any of those votes will go to Matshall now? And what does that have to do with our offense? You think WE could have gotten votes???
