I don't know why they though he would pick U of I over Kansas anyway. The kids girlfriend is at Kansas as well as Jerence Howard whom he is close with. I never figured he was coming anyway. Funny video though.

Unfortunately, Illinois fans are not like UNC. Illinois has a difficult time keeping players home. Duke, Notre Dame, Kansas, etc... build their teams on Chicago players. If Illinois can ever find a way to keep players home, they will be incredible.

Not sure what you mean by your roster comments. Illinois has always had rosters full of Chicago and Peoria area players. There are 10 or so players on this years team from IL with 5 or 6 being from Chicago. Champaign isn't really "home" anyway considering the distance but I know what you're trying to say... sort of.

Illinois recruits nationally too though Groce has strong Midwest ties. Illinois is fine. They lost the kid to Louisville but he always wanted to go to Louisville and Alexander was never coming as Kansas was always his choice.

In 2 years Groce has had solid recruiting classes and already has a 2015 verbal from DJ Williams and if you include the 3 transfers Illinois is going to be better than the NCAA tourney team they already are.

I have a political science degree, am active in politics, and I am about as liberal as they come. I didn't know you could describe an obviously small person with black hair and olive skin any other way. I guess I should just call him a Mexican when he might be from the Philippines, Iraq, etc, you know on a video where everyone is dressed the same. Some people are over the top ridiculous PC.

I would not have guessed that. When did you graduate? All of the kids in my POLS classes were lame when it came to following sports, except the kids trying to go to law school.

All I know is every year I get older and I seem to move a little closer to the middle, somewhat because of the touchy freely crowd like this. I'm a pale borderline ginger and if you described me as such we'll that's what I am.

Defending "little dark guy" is hilarious. If you were as smart as you think you are, you'd know there's no defending that remark without making yourself sound like an even bigger ******* than you already do for saying it in the first place.

Announcing your degrees to validate your intelligence to a group of strangers is about as insecure as you can get, but I'm not sure how having a political science degree and being "active in politics" and being "liberal as they come" somehow means you just get a pass on saying something most people think was iffy at best. What you just said is no different than if Sarah Palin were to say "I have a degree in journalism, was governor of Alaka and as conservative as they come, so I'm qualified to decide what is and isn't okay to say and if you disagree you're just being too sensitive!"

We don't need your qualifications to help determine how intelligent you are or how seriously to take your arguments.

I don't think that he was touting his education, more implying that people with liberal ideologies are perceived to be more sensitive to matters regarding race. By stating his degree and level of political activism, it denotes that he is serious (more so than people not involved with or studying politics) about liberalism, and did not intend for it to be a derogatory or racist remark.

Anyway that's just my take. Don't shoot the messenger, as I'm sure SJ and I would butt heads politically. I just don't think he's showing off his level of education.

Yup. Least common denominator. Fastest route to pointing out who you mean. I hate defending SJ, but the people who are offended at that are the ones who have a problem with race.

I just pointed out that I am Democrat, I've even been to a few events over the years, I've studied race and politics, and I voted for Obama twice. Why? Well the party I identify with isn't 90% white like the other one and has a far better history with race relations since the conservative democrats left the party about 4 or 5 decades ago. Those are just facts. Regardless it's the over the top crowd like this that really turn me off where you can't even describe a dark guy as a dark guy when he's in a crowd of like 20 people dressed exactly the same.

This could not be any further from the truth. If there was ever a thing such as a blanket statement this would be it.

Ummmm....the video was still funny....and kind of sad, as well, to watch folks invest that much emotion into a recruit choosing a school.

Because they are uncomfortable if someone points out a difference the other person was born with, ala race. In my experience, people that are truly comfortable with race don't bring the music to a sudden stop because they hear something that denotes the race of someone. It's the difference between noticing the difference and accepting it or glossing over it and hoping no one points it out.

If people of a different race have a problem with something they'll speak up for themselves. They don't need white apologists doing it for them.
