It won't be Bourne's decision.

I'm going to stick up for Bourne once, as the AD, the man should be allowed to make at least one decision a decade. Maybe we should lobby that he decides which local HS wins the most energetic mascot contest at one of the 10 home basketball games.

I don't have a problem with Bourne like many here do but aren't most major hire/fire decisions done at the President's level? I mean Bourne will have input for sure but ultimately it will be Alger's decision, right?

I'm joking about how after 15 years of following JMU sports I'm still not aware of any Bourne decision. Everything discussed on this board is outside of Bourne's authority. I admit I pick on the guy too much, but he has been made an easy target by the university, he is listed as senior leadership to the president yet he can't make any decision or be held accountable for anything.

Can anybody on this board reveal a Bourne decision, ever?

All I will say, is that I encourage you to reach out to him or any administrator or coach with JMU. I have found no one who is not approachable and willing to converse (well maybe MM). You opinion may not change, but you will at least gain respect.

MM was taking a lot of the blame for the NH loss on the JMU Coaches Show today.

I believe he'll be here next year. This is just what I think, not what should be. He has managed to keep from doing the wrong thing in front of outsiders and I believe our admin puts heavy weight on this. No matter what his on field performance might be, they will use this part of Mickey's personality to save a lost salary. Guys, remember EKU, they didn't feel any remorse from not having won that bid.

Honestly, that's not at all what I am getting. I get the feeling that the LAST thing the admin wants to deal with right now is a coaching search.

He SHOULD be, but I don't think it will happen.

In a few weeks Bourne will watch another president put another high profile sport coach in lame duck territory...

Purple, if Alger shows some balls and makes the difficult decision to lead us to FBS then I think he will make the same difficult decision to fire MM. Conversely, if Alger elects to have more open forums and meetings about moving to FBS this spring than I suspect he will let MM finish the last year of his contract.

If we're still having open forums about FBS in the spring, we are NOT going to have a decision by July 1 at the rate decisions like this get passed through admin, BOV, and the faculty senate.

This admin has looked past plenty of indiscretions on Mickey's behalf when he won. How long do they keep on.

Funny someone mentions 'balls'.... When you use search firms for big hires and have Carr reports....you don't have any .... and hide behind the expensive bill to cover your ass.

Maybe Bourne has an inside track if VT outsources their hire with the connections he made with search firms and headhunters. Doubt it.

I have not seen any evidence that our current or previous administration gives a collective rat's ass about any of their numerous missteps. Linwood Rose was clearly a horrific "leader", but Alger has yet demonstrate that he is serious about reversing the grievous harm that Rose inflicted upon the university. He has thus far only demonstrated that he is a weak man who is afraid to make the decision that he needs to make.

Let's hope that Alger eventually grows the balls to erase the legacy of his worthless, piece of sh!t predecessor.

Yep, that was the point I realized I need to be more selective about which threads I read here.
